In 2021, more than a quarter of the NZ population reported having poor mental health. Just think of how many people that really is.

We at Nosey Boys want to help out and bring the change that New Zealand needs. We started our business as a part of the Young Enterprise Scheme this year.

We want to create a product that helps solve this issue while also keeping people from feeling shy or ashamed when using our product. After talking with family and friends, and doing some research online, we found that in New Zealand there are not many consumer available scent-based products specifically focused at improving mental wellbeing.

We have decided to create an aromatherapy product with scents made from different essential oil mixes. We also gave our product a sleek and muted design that can be used by everyone.

So, Who are we?

Zion Kim (Head of Marketing)

Hey, I am Zion! I feel so lucky to build experience in marketing in business with the Nosey Boys, because this is my first time ever being involved in a business project. As a person who is passionate about designing and drawing, I felt very fortunate to take the role of marketing in the Nosey Boys project. My future plans will be towards becoming an architect since I love designing and building.

Calvin Huang (Chief Admin Officer and Communications Manager)

I have always been interested in starting a business and working on this project with the other Nosey Boys has been a great experience for me. I have a passion for playing and listening to Music, the sciences and anything to do with computers. I plan to pursue a career doing physics research overseas or a career in education.

Oil Medwin (Chief Executive Officer)

Kia Ora, I am Oli. I have always felt a passion for starting something new and creating a business in an area that needs or already is growing. I am loving every moment working with the other Nosey Boys and I am looking forward to every moment going forward. I love love love music, any spare moment I get I am either listening, making, or playing music. As I head off further in my career, I plan on studying and working in Cybersecurity majoring in Quantum Computing systems.

Franki Thompson (Head of Production/Operations)

Hey there, I am Franki. Mental health is a serious problem in our day and age. I am hoping that our business makes a difference and helps people struggling with mental health problems. I am looking forward to working for Nosey boys and what we have planned for the future. I love getting outdoors, surfing, playing sport, and hanging with mates. I am still figuring out what I am looking to do after school.

Nick Zhou (Chief Financial Officer)

Hi, I am Nick. I have always been interested in starting a business. I am grateful that I have gained the opportunity to start a business with my friends. I am excited the path filled with experience and challenges that has been paved by being involved in starting a business.  I have a unique skill in mathematics, allowing me to comprehensively fulfil the job of being the Chief Finacial Officer (C.F.O) for our company, Nosey Boys. In the future, I plan to achieve a Bachelor of Commerce and a diploma of mathematics. This allows me to have many job opportunities once I graduate.

What scents are available?

Please note that the ingredients included in this list may differ to the actual product received as we are constantly working on improving our products effectiveness and experience.

Chillax – Made with lemon, peppermint, cinnamon bark, and ylang ylang, Chillax is great for when you need take a step back and just relax for a bit. These ingredients are known to help calm the mind and release tension, thus helping to relax anyone who smells this Whiffstick.

Ill-Pill – Do you hate feeling queasy during a long car ride? Are you prone to motion sickness? Do not worry, the Ill-Pill has got your back! Made from lemon, lavender, ginger, spearmint, and peppermint, the Ill-pill will help reduce the feeling of nausea.

Lock In – This scent intends to help you focus when you really need to. Made with lemon, lavender, bergamot, and patchouli, Lock In is perfect for moments where you need that extra little boost.

Sweet Dreams – Made with lavender, ylang ylang, lemon and vanilla oil, Sweet Dreams is ought to help you get a good night’s sleep.

Whiffstick (Original) – Made from fig, apple, coconut, and bergamot oil, our original Whiffstick scent has a sweet and pleasant smell suitable for general use.

We also want to mention that we are working on creating a healthy vape alternative through the use of essential oils, however because we want to provide the best products we can, we are still researching and trialling different scents. Once we have concluded that this product is effective, we will advertise and sell it on our website www.noseyboys.com.

What does this mean for us?

Reaching our goal of $2500 will allow us to source the metal exterior casings we plan to use for our Whiffsticks, along with the other resources required to produce and create our high-quality products. The supplier we have contacted can only supply them at a minimum quantity of 500 units making it quite pricey. Your support will help us purchase our first batch of metal casings. This campaign will also help us afford the packaging and oils for the batch. This will allow us to keep our Whiffsticks in stock while providing you a chance to try them out!

How will we help with Mental Health?

Aside from the effects of the oils used in our mix, we also plan to donate 10% of our sales to the Mental Health foundation. If we reach our goal of $2500, we will be able to donate $250 which will be spent on campaigning for a better mental health system in New Zealand so that Kiwis can get support when they need it.

As mentioned previously, we gave the Whiffstick a sleek and subtle design. This is to decrease the stigma around this type of product as we recognise that aromatherapy products are often seen as “female” products which we think shouldn’t be the case. We also recognise that some people also want to keep their mental health to themselves, and we hope that our design can help.

FAQ

Q: How do I pick the scent I want to order?

A: We will email you once the campaign is over to confirm what scent you would like to purchase. For this reason, please not Pledge anonymously as we will have no way of getting you your rewards.

Q: How long will a Whiffstick last?

A: We expect that our Whiffsticks will last at least a year!

Q: Do the scents actually work?

A: All the oils used in our products have research proving their benefits. For example, bergamot which is used in our Lock In Original scents, is a proven anti-depressant and focus enhancing oil.

Q: When will your Whiffsticks arrive?

A: We estimate that we will be shipping out our first batch of Whiffsticks around mid to late June. Times may vary by a few weeks so follow our socials for updates!
