Baxters Original produce an award-winning range of premium quality BBQ and Hot Sauces. Based in Wellington, we manufacture and distribute to supermarkets, specialty stores, restaurants, cafe and condiment lovers throughout the country, who can't seem to get enough of it.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We've just rebranded and we are ready to get Australia on the sauce! We're crowdfunding to get our products in front of an audience of 10,000 trade-focused attendees in May, at the largest food trade show called Food Service Australia. We intend to build relationships with distribution partners who can take it throughout the country. But we're going to need to sell extra sauce to get there!

 

 

Who are we?

Hi I’m Mekla, Co-founder of Baxters Original, alongside my partner Berrin. Initially, I trained to cook these recipes to perfection by the ‘original’ Baxter’s. Taking over the responsibility for producing, and upholding the quality of these amazing sauces, as well as managing the distribution!

Berrin's role is managing director, also networking, sales, and being an amazing allrounder!!

 

What exactly will this crowdfund cover?

✔️Travel expenses to Sydney

✔️ The exhibition space

✔️ Freighting stock on site

✔️ Rebranded material for the show including wall and table banners

✔️ Updated product labels

✔️ Brochures, stickers and business cards, and trademarking ‘Get on the Sauce’ in Australia so we can do things properly.

100% of any excess funds raised over and above our target for this campaign will be invested into the ongoing growth of the business!

 

What rewards can we give you?

We have a great range of rewards on offer, starting from stickers and sauces, and moving to a Luxury Wagyu BBQ and Butchery Masterclass, including eight courses of different styles of Wagyu, with drinks included. You also get a take-home goodie bag with a wagyu steak, a chef’s knife, and sauces of course!

Next the rewards move to products from our favourite cooler brand Yeti, as well as one heck of an amazing range of pellet BBQ's, the Green Mountain Grill (GMG) which does everything!

 

The Green Mountain Grill is an electric-powered pellet BBQ, smoker, oven and grill, that can be turned on via an app. So you can start, as well as monitor your BBQ remotely!

The smaller version can even be plugged into your car 12V for cooking on the go! Get that unique smoked flavor, without the hassle of building a fire!

We'll even throw in the chance to be the first port of call at our next round of equity funding!

 

Baxter's Original Sauce - The back story

Originally established in 2013, Baxters Original was founded by Scott and Erika Baxter, after moving to New Zealand from the USA to work on the Hobbit movies. Being gluten intolerant Scott was unable to find any quality BBQ and Hot sauces locally. Previously having had success as a commercial brewer by winning "best of the fest" with his brown ale at the Florida USA 2000 International beer festival, Scott had a knack for creating great recipes. From there it was a natural progression for him to create sauces that he and his family could enjoy and love.

 

Whilst developing his recipes Scott brought his batches of sauce into the office for everyone to sample and provide feedback and Berrin was his biggest fan straight away and as they say, the rest is history. At this stage, he was producing more sauce than he and his family could consume, at the request of friends and colleagues, he started to sell it to fund the operation.  A fan base for these sauces ignited and he created a demand to supply local Wellington stores.

Scott was onto a winning formula and started entering his creations into major sauce competitions worldwide. Multiple awards were won, notably the Dragons Breath BBQ sauce took out the World Champion title in the BBQ sauce division at the 2017 World Hot Sauce Awards in the USA

In early 2017 the Baxter’s were beginning to make moves to return home to be closer to family, however, they could not just simply up and leave due to the saucy momentum!!! It was around then that Scott and Erika approached us to continue their sauce legacy.

Timing is everything and at that particular time Berrin and I were considering home-based business opportunities whilst juggling a young family … bingo!

Did we know what we were getting into? No…

Have we grown immensely throughout this journey? Yes indeed!

In a nutshell, to do something you have not done before, you have to become somebody you haven't been before.

Along this roller coaster ride, we have achieved some notable milestones, supplying to Countdown supermarkets nationwide, Wendy’s Hamburgers, Hells Pizza and continue to supply New Zealand’s largest hospitality group, which has all given the brand great exposure!

We are truly humbled and inspired by our customers old and new who are very loyal and enthusiastic advocates for our sauce!

We are growing!

Recently we have partnered with the 'Supplier Collaboration Project' whom bring a wealth of experience in retail sales and brand development. This union is proving to be an exciting and well timed joining of the forces as we are poised to take a giant leap forward. In 2021 we trademarked the phrase ‘Get on the Sauce’ which was ripe for the picking!!

Alongside a great product and a classic catch phrase, we are in the final stages of a fresh re-brand to incorporate ‘Get on the Sauce’ into every aspect of the brand.

Complimented with a marketing campaign for this exciting growth phase of the business, we are now primed and ready to Get Australia on the sauce!
