The Founder

Kia Ora team, I'm Lee and I'm the Founder and an Ambassador [NZ] for Better Men - an organization and an initiative, dedicated to helping men grow, heal and tap into their full potentials.

Who I am though, isn't really important.  I'm basically just a face and a voicebox, for something much much greater.  Prior to my experience below, my life was nothing special - just another instance of hidden trauma, suffering, insecurity, self-destructive behaviours and a whole lot of feeling sorry for myself.  Following my experience though, things have become a lot more interesting.

The Experience

We all know that a short story is a good story, so I'll try to be as concise as possible.

Almost month ago, on the 13th of June, I was sharing a drink with some new friends, when I happened to die for a little bit.  I experienced the divine, was shown a few things and after about 60 seconds or so, was booted back into the world of the living and started to realize a whole lot of things.

Amongst these myriad realizations, was my purpose and the work I'll be dedicating the rest of my life towards - tackling our culture's current and diseased idea of masculinity, staunching the the trauma that stems from this cultural infection and finally, supporting and rallying together, a world of Better Men.

The Vision

The vision is to bring forth a fundamental shift, in men's understanding of themselves and their roles in society. The core belief of our mission, is that when men become better, they build stronger families, stronger communities and ultimately, a better world.

I believe that real change begins with introspection and self-improvement, which is why I've written The Healing House: Rising Above Trauma and Building Stronger Foundations, as Better Men's first ever publication.

This book is a beacon for all men, who are ready to embark on their personal journeys of growth and healing.  The Healing House is a comprehensive guide, sharing my experiences and insights on self-improvement, personal growth and emotional healing.

The Healing House is not just a book; it's a catalyst for transformation, designed to guide men towards becoming better versions of themselves; both for themselves and those they care about.

I hope to distribute the book widely and make its message accessible, to as many men as possible. This is particularly important for those in our society, who are most vulnerable and in need of support.

The Healing House is Better Men's first ever publication and we have committed to maintaining its free availability.  This is a book that all men should have access to, regardless of financial circumstances and it is certainly one that I wish I'd had, when I was growing up and struggling with my own difficulties.

This crowdfunding campaign aims to distribute The Healing House to those who need it most, as well as to help establish Better Men's first headquarters, right here in New Zealand.

Although we've committed to maintaining The Healing House as a free eBook forever, this decision means very little, when we consider that those who need it most, do not readily have access to electronic devices required to read it.

The Work/Mahi

Thus, I aim to print and distribute 1,000 copies of this publication - donating them across all of the prisons within New Zealand.  My hope, is that this book will reach those men who are at crucial junctures (and opportunities) in their lives, offering them a path towards healing, growth, and a better future.

This is a book like no other.  This is a publication inspired by the divine, created by a man who'd only just recently dealt with and rose above his own trauma, who has also spent the last 10 years in prison (as a Corrections Officer).  But if all of that isn't enough, feel free to have a read of it yourself and make up your own mind:

Not too bad, for something I put together in six days right?

Like I said - it's inspired by the divine.  Just as it's not my vision, it's not my book either.  I'm just the man who's now clean enough to channel the 'good stuff' and the handful of fingers, that was able to let it all out. 

I was shown that I've not only received the privilege of driving such a positive cultural change, but in return for being of service to this world and to this country, that my loved ones and I will get to live a pretty sweet life too - so I don't feel used at all!!

Funds

Funds will initially cover the cost of publishing and delivering The Healing House, to prisons all throughout and around New Zealand.  Surplus funds (if we're lucky enough) will be funneled straight into Better Men - assisting with its establishment, getting it on its feet and supporting future campaigns. 

I'm currently in the process of trying to stand up both a team of coaches and consultants, as well as a mobile Podcast that showcases our country's unknown and unrecognized legends, so every dollar really does count - each a potential drop in this ocean of change.

The Invitation

I invite you to join me on this journey.  In fact, I need you to join me on this journey.  I can't do this alone and I'm asking for your help.  So please give generously.

Please help me to support these diseased men, with their collective journeys towards healing - your husbands, your sons, your fathers, your brothers, your leaders and your friends.

Please help me to prevent the trauma, that these diseased men breed - understanding that each of their shameful acts, are symptomatic manifestations of this unaddressed disease.

Please help me to teach these diseased men, that our culture's traditional understanding of masculinity was maybe once a helpful adaptation, but now only hinders us and needs to be let go - not forgetting, that it wasn't even 80 years ago, when the last World War ended.

Please help me to show these diseased men, a rite of passage that our culture currently lacks - encouraging them to take responsibility, for the wrongs that they'd wrought and begin to make amends.

Please help me to inspire these diseased men, by showing them a healthier and more balanced version of masculinity - one where strength and courage, are grounded within vulnerability and compassion instead.

Finally, please help me to not only seize hold of these intergenerational wheels of trauma, but raise and rally a brotherhood to grab them alongside me - aiming to not only stop these wheels from turning, but through sheer determination and strength of will, begin to turn them the other way and redefine for generations to come, what family and whānau ought to mean.
