Kia ora! We’re Horse With No Name, and we’re putting on our children's theatre show called Land of the Long Long Drive at Circa Theatre in Wellington in the April school holidays this year. We run an award winning theatre company, and this play has already received acclaim through being awarded seed funding by the National Theatre for Children, and winning Playmarket’s Plays for the Young Competition in the 3-8 Year-Old category. Our cast and crew is stacked with professional creatives, all of whom are prominent figures in the performing arts, children's entertainment, and music industries. Written by Catriona Tipene and Ryan Cundy, and featuring songs by NZ singer songwriter Benny Tipene, Land of the Long Long Drive stars actors Emma Katene, Gabby Clark, Jthan Morgan and Kate Anderson. Joining the team are Wellington Theatre Awards 2021 Costume Designer of the Year Victoria Gridley, Set Designers Brendan West and James Searle, Stage Manager Salome Grace, Sound Designer Ben Kelly and Lighting Designer Wren Glover.
Land of the Long Long Drive follows three animal friends, Kārearea, Wētā, and Tuna (long finned eel) as they journey through Te Ika-a-Māui on a road trip. They learn about each other along the way, and come to realise that they all have different strengths that they can use to build one another up! It’s for audiences aged 3-12, and their whānau, and it is very cute. Land of the Long Long Drive has themes of unity, positive relationships with the whenua and its creatures, friendship and overcoming adversity.
We're asking for help, because the arts are in a little bit of a crisis at the moment, and there is not a lot of funding moving around. Funds raised through this campaign will go directly to our talented team of creatives, all of whom are prominent figures in the performing arts, children's entertainment and music industries. We are committed to valuing the mahi they make - but we need help of lovely people to boost us up!
We have received amazing goods and services generously donated to us by the cool cats from Whittaker's Chocolate, Proper Crisps, Coolsville Cartel, Animal Kingdoms Toy Store, Tumbleweed Tees, Gridley by Victoria, Kate Paints Stuff and more!
