About

Amygdala

Project 2023-01-31 14:25:56 +1300

Amygdala is a Contemporary Dance piece that is to be performed in the 2023 Wellington Fringe Festival. Amygdala explores the power of one's brain and body connection in response to fearful situations. Through the creation of unique and innovative movements the dancers aim to communicate the process of the Amygdala Hijack . The show delves into the development behind the fear to create an understanding of why your fears appear so real.

Amygdala then continues to exhibit the body's instinctive physical responses, which leads to the exploration of one's internal functions. This reveals the relationship between the brain and the body by using movement and expression to convey how they transfer signals to and from each other.

The Amygdala is a region of the brain primarily associated with emotional processes. It is something we live with constantly, yet most know very little about it. This show aspires to have audience members understand how they can implement this knowledge within their own lives, encouraging personal and social reflection. With a cast of 15 dancers -all current students and gratuates of Te Auaha's Commercial Dance Course- we aim to create an innovative and thought provoking performance.

As a choreographer, Amelia Butcher, aims to challenge and push the boundaries with unique movement and powerful music, creating pieces that leave audience members in awe. We aim to have audience members witnessing creative movements and visuals that also express this theme and shares information surrounding the Amygdala that can create new self awareness and understanding while improving the relationship between ones mind and body.

We would love your help and support to allow this show be performed to its highest potential.
