Taking Flight Haast Eagle

We are a collection of Department of Public Works builders from Black Rock City, Nevada, USA bringing an art structure to Kiwiburn 2023. Our team has worked for man base/pavilion, metal shop, special projects, along with gate, artery and greeters. We come from New Zealand, England, Germany, France, and America. This years theme for Kiwiburn is time travel and we are bringing a larger than life Haast eagle with wings spread, swooping in to grab its prey. We chose to recreate the Haast eagle as it is a native bird to New Zealand and extinct, so the only way to see and experience this Pouākai. Several of the feathers will open on hinges to give educational information and local legends of the largest eagle known to exist. In addition, our eagle will provide some shade under a wing, and a tail and wing you can perch on. To integrate the legend and story we would like to do a late night reading performance of the story of Kurangaituku. Finally, it is our intention that this structure be built to burn with a metal skeleton reveal adding to the time travel theme of this years’ Kiwiburn.

Good morning friends, family, and framily!
we are sitting here in ChristChurch resting from a whirlwind ride calling the Pouaki into existance. What a ride! I am sure than individually our team met may of you on paddock and the tide of appriciation and love that our haast eagle recieved has left us humbled and truly thankful to be part of this community. So thank you, like seriously, THANK YOU!
Rewards: please look for an email from [email protected] about rewards, many of our donors did not include an address in your request for a reward. We need to know your address so we can send these out. Please respond asap as it is two of our american crew with the rewards and they leave in 2 days! Or comment here please if you would like to pick up your reward at the exchange in christchurch.
Again thank you so much for your support both finacially but even more so in person on the paddock, we were honored to bring art with your help!

Thank you so much for all your amazing support for our art, we are so excited to share this with the world... not once, but twice! A decision from Kiwi Burn that broke our heart has turned into an exciting opportunity to showcase this piece a second time before it is cast from this plane in fire. More details on this to come!
Please know that our fundraising goal set here was the bare minimum to build this piece, every dollar from our goal forward helps us to pay back team members who have spent their personal money getting this project off the ground and to feed the crew on the paddock!
Here is a little snippet from our member Ishyne who left San Fransico today to start her journey to New Zealand:
"I was driving by Baker Beach, where the man first burned. I started my journey to Kiwiburn today. It’s going to be a long wild adventure and I’m ready for a little down time before building my ass off with a crew of beautiful talented humans. Family really.
