Our mission is to work with all people who enjoy playing a sport where ball throwing is required. We aim to “flip the coin” and help them become the best they can be at throwing a ball – be this in basketball, netball, cricket, rugby, baseball, and all other ball sports where throwing a ball well, is an integral part of the enjoyment of playing the game.
MY VISION is to solve a problem that many people, particularly young people grapple with, and ‘bring confidence to their mindset’, so that they enjoy their play and come to believe in themselves and their ability.
How did "Perfect Shot" start?
Hi, my name is Josh Te Rauna and I founded Perfect Shot Limited. We are a family-owned start-up company, inventors of the augmented reality sport training device, “Perfect Shot Technology”. We are and have been working with, a Massey University expert developer to successfully create an augmented reality training aide that helps young and old, fit and not-so-fit amateur and professional sports people, learn the optimal ball launch trajectories (e.g., basketball free throw).
In simple terms, how does Perfect Shot work?
When an athlete uses Microsoft HoloLens glasses loaded with Perfect Shot Technology, they see everything they would normally see, PLUS they see where they need to throw the ball to get it in the net. And when the athlete throws the ball as instructed, it goes in the basketball net everytime, no matter where on the court they throw from. And it works for all athletes no matter their size, physique or ability, thus making it a 'game changer' for muscle memory develpment.
So Perfect Practice makes Perfect Play with Perfect Shot!
Is Perfect Shot for everyone?
Yes. We are very keen to provide Perfect Shot to special needs groups and our tamariki to help them learn and be part of a team. To do this we first need to get Perfect Shot onto the market. This will provide the finance to support our dream of providing the technology to support our communities.

Why are we asking for your support?
Perfect Shot Limited is working hard to protect our invention, which costs a lot of money. I have a great little team and lots of positive support from everyone we demo Perfect Shot to, so this is why we feel confident that we have a perfect invention.
To protect our amazing ‘Perfect Shot’ invention we need funding for patent and trademark protection and to launch and fine tune the product for sale. We have already filed a provisional patent application to protect this technology and are now focused on a full patent and further development for commercialisation.
Will Perfect Shot work for other sports?
Perfect Shot technology operates on an AR headset (e.g., HoloLens) which shows the wearer where they need to throw the ball, even if the hoop is not clearly visible by the ball shooter. This concept is useable for all sorts of ball throwing activities or sports.
Once the software is downloaded, the headset can be used on any basketball court (Basketball is our test sport, and the next iteration will be sports such Netball, Rugby, Cricket, Baseball and others). The prototype works perfectly for basketball and we now need updating and security added so that it can be sold commercially. But first, we need to secure our patent.
What’s our initial market?
Our first commercially driven target market is college level basketball in the USA, with progression to all target-based elements in ball sports at all levels. Longer term, the developed technology will also be towards amateur and recreational sports. We see our success at the professional level and college sports, especially in the USA, as a way of promoting the benefits of Perfect Shot and making it a ‘must have‘ for getting better at ball shooting and goal scoring. Plus, it will provide an income to enable us to spread Perfect Shot throughout all our communities. Yeah!
How can you help?
We can now confidently say that we have developed a “masterpiece” in the technology space and also happy to say we can start searching for the people (be they young, old, with or without disabilities, amateur or professional) who struggle to shoot or throw a ball well and give them a real helping hand.
