Don’t Wake Me Up has been in the works for over a year now, starting out as a project Rosie Glover (writer and director) dreamed up in her bed of all places when struggling to sleep. It has been an ambition of Rosies to put on a piece which will resonate with others and communicate the struggles of mental health for those who don’t know enough about it or need a space to connect with their own experience. Recently graduating from Te Herenga Waka Victoria University Of Wellington, Rosie is interested in the relationship between film and theatre and how technology can be used to communicate a message onstage, telling a story close to her heart.
We have a team of 6 phenomenal emerging artists heading up the production. Our designer, Isadora Lao is known in the theatre community for her hard work and enthusiasm and she is excited to flex her creative ability in creating a visually stimulating piece. Our show will stand out among others with the use of visual material projected within our set as well as our videographer Finn Holland filming live on stage throughout the duration of the play. This adds a close-up and personal element to the production, and a range of perspectives one would not have without camera assistance.
We want to experiment with technology and theatre, combining the two to introduce different mediums one would not expect. We will have an original score composed by Sonic Arts graduate Joel Ewan whose main focus is around ambient music. Our team is rounded out by Te Herenga Waka Master of Fine Arts graduate and 2020 nominee for Most Promising Emerging Artist at NZ Fringe, Austin Harrison as stage manager and performer Laura Gaudin who was involved in the making of Shu and Shu’s Song as well as being the solo in Tandy Dandy for Fringe 2020. As we are approaching a subject which can often be hard to speak about amongst individuals, it is vital we create a show which will hit home the importance of speaking out and opening up to your peers.
Without the help of Pledge me and the generosity of others we would not be able to put this show on its feet. We are passionate about theatre and are committed to creating meaningful shows! we would love to be able to do so and get paid for our time. If we make it to $2500, we can make the show happen. IF we make it to $5000 we can pay ourselves a whopping $10/hr! Your generosity goes a long way! If you are not able to contribute financially, then sharing this page around can help out a whole bunch as well!! Thank you, and happy pledging!
