About

Truggit - An App For The Horticultural Industry.

What the funding will go towards

Harry and I have invested $30,000 in Truggit App to create enough runway to develop a minimum viable product.

Truggit will need a further $30,000 to finance beta testing phase, the strategic communications plan, the onboarding of growers and pickers, and the Truggit App rollout.

The aim is for Truggit App to be self-sustaining by no later than 31 January 2021.

Our story

Raised in the sunny Hawkes Bay, surrounded by gardens and the horticultural sector. True wealth is what we can grow, and what we can harvest. This project was developed in Managed Isolation, after copious laps of the fenced-off carpark.

I'd just touched down from Amsterdam and eager to get back into the region in which I was raised. Spring was blooming in the South Pacific, and winter was looming in Europe. The kiwis onboard the flight all shared the similar sense of safety and security as we raced across the Tasman Sea towards a snow-capped Taranaki Maunga, greeting us as we flew in.

Hawkes Bay Vines

Once the jetlag had passed, and the mind clock reset, I began catching up on the current affairs back home. One that struck a chord was the tsunami of labour shortage closing in on the horticultural sector. I had two weeks in isolation so plenty of time to research and dream of what may be. As soon as I was released from Covid jail I went to work meeting local growers, big and small, to gauge the situation from the ground. I met with various individuals from both public and private sector to see what solutions were being developed, and it became apparent there was still a lot of work to be done. They provided great feedback and encouragement.

Fruits of our Labour

So what triggered Truggit?

Truggit was triggered by a question in the Stuff daily quiz 'What is a traditional, wooden basket to carry produce? - The answer, a Trug. Thus, Truggit was created.

The Truggit App aims to deliver a transformational change in the way in which Growers and the workforce interact, thus mobilising the people in this time of crisis. The Minimal Viable Product (MVP) is near completion. To ensure full functionality and strategic delivery we require additional funding before the app becomes self-sustaining. The vision is to deliver a user-friendly platform that can be applied globally across primary industries.

Knowing the importance of a team in a new venture, and not wanting to tackle it alone, I got in touch with a good friend from university days, Harry Smith. We both shared the same passion to save the sector so decided to team up for the cause.

We're super excited to do our part for the regions, and a big thank you in advance for helping us reach our goals!
