Mercury Plaza Closing T-Shirt

Merc T-shirt

As someone who has had many meals at the Merc, shopped at New Gum Sarn and been a local in the area for the previous 10 years — I wanted to create something to celebrate Mercury Plaza with it closing this year.

The main back design is based on the Chinese daily calendar, where thin paper sheets show the date on the Gregorian calendar and the Lunar calendar. Also having other information regarding the luckiness of the day and holidays that are celebrated. The Calendar has spread through other Chinese speaking countries and also spread those using writing systems based on Chinese characters such as adapted calendars in Japan and Korea. So the design reflects the last day of operation for Mercury Plaza, 20th October 2019, with the logos of vendors that were open in the last months prior to closing feature in the design.

Profit made from these t shirts will all be donated to Aotearoa Resettlement Community Coalition, as I feel like the space that was created by Mercury Plaza is built around a community of integration, sharing, and connections to countries that people left and should continue to foster that spirit.

I would love for people to be able to come pick up t shirts on the final couple of days before the closing of the Merc, and I will be at Mercury Plaza with the shirts Saturday the 19th of October (1:30PM–6:30PM) and Sunday October 20th (1:30PM–6:30PM). If this is not possible postage arrangements can be made.

Image is a mock up, the final shirts will be screen printed on AS Colour Staple tees. Printing done by the Common Goods. Please state required size (S-3XL). Make sure you choose the correct option, Pick Up or Delivery.
