Project 2019-09-14 17:16:17 +1200
Help us to grow the New Zealand space community, through education, mentorship and content, by supporting our PledgeMe campaign today.
SpaceBase’s mission is to catalyze and grow the space ecosystem in New Zealand through education, entrepreneurship and community building.
Space technology has improved life on Earth, and has the potential to solve humanity's global grand challenges. NZ is poised to participate in the global space industry, if it can develop the capacity to do so.
For the past two years, SpaceBase has been passionately running space initiatives in NZ to create pathways for Kiwis to join the global space industry. We intend to give the next generation of Kiwis a road map to guide them on the journey from space enthusiast to space entrepreneur.
Our efforts to date have been about 90% self-funded. We are asking you, our community, for funding so that we can continue to deliver our projects for free for another year, develop more educational and mentoring programmes, and build the NZ space community platform further.
Our Impact
We have run NZ space and aerospace challenges, given space presentations and training, mentored space entrepreneurs, and advised space agency and local government on space strategy and opportunities. We have developed an open-source community and content platform to serve and catalyze the emerging space community in Aotearoa which includes a Space Directory and Events Calendar, and a repository of resources for the Kiwi space entrepreneur.
Summary of our Impact for the past 2 years:
- 100+ separate space presentations, briefings, training sessions, and speaker events
- 10 startups/entrepreneurs mentored
- 2 space/aerospace challenges delivered
- 99 potential Challenge teams/solutions over two competitions generated
- 70 virtual incubator participants from 18 teams facilitated
- 8 startups catalyzed
- 22 incubators across NZ engaged
- 1 space Meetup group created
- 3 national/local strategy workshops participated
- 64 partner organizations collaborated
- 14 regional Economic Development Agencies engaged
- 9 universities and colleges engaged
- 1 community platform with Space Directory and Events Calendar
“They've provided so much expertise that I've struggled to find anywhere else in New Zealand”
- CEO, Peter Toth, Extraterrestrial Power
“The contribution of SpaceBase in building bridges between startups, academic, economic, educational and governmental institutions ...means they have created something else that has never been before: A Minimum Viable Ecosystem (MVE) for the Space Industry in Aotearoa! That could be a launchpad for future space-entrepreneurs, curious students and advanced technologists to pick the right set of resources ... to launch their space ideas... “
- Sakthi Priya Ranganathan, JIX Limited
The work of SpaceBase continues to inspire young people and those people in education about the opportunities available to them in NZ and beyond. Providing a focused view on cohort of businesses also serves to help people understand future job skills and opportunities.
- Jiveen MacGillivray, Growth and Innovation Specialist, Northland Inc.
Our Team
SpaceBase was founded by three Edmund Hillary Fellows - Emeline, Eric, and Rich with decades of aerospace, education and program development, and software development experience from the U.S. and the Philippines.
We are grateful for the privilege to work in this beautiful country, and we don't take it lightly. We take our social impact and company values very seriously. Check out our values and our Impact report to see where we are coming from and where we are going.

Kia Ora Whanau!

We are so thrilled at the vote of confidence in our work here in NZ and the potential to do more with your financial support. With the funds raised we will be able to: |
Again, a huge thank you from the co-founders of SpaceBase. We do not take our privilege to stay and serve the space community lightly, and hope to continue democratizing access to space by helping co-create and catalyze entrepreneurial space ecosystems in NZ for years to come. |

Campaign Extended to 8 December, and Funding Goals Update
05/12/2019 at 8:20 PM
Apologies as I thought I had already posted this update yerterday.
We have been given a little bit more time to rally the community to donate and spread the word. The campaign has been extended to Sunday, 8 December and we hope this will give you the incentive to support us before the campaign closes. We are delighted to report that we have raised over half of our original 50k goal directly through the Gift Trust. We have also received huge support from our community abroad who find it very valuable to contribute to a space ecosystem in NZ. Because of this, we have reduced our funding goal on the PledgeMe Platform to 20k. |
||
We now only need ~$1,300 to make our goal. Please help spread the word one last time and lets close the gap to the funds today! | ||

Update on Total Funds Raised
02/12/2019 at 11:12 PM
We have been quite moved by the outpouring of support from friends and collegues from across the globe. Thank you!!! As part of this, we have also found a new pathway for US charitable donors to donate and get the tax receipts they needed. This goes directly to a US non-profit receiving the funds on our behalf but unfortunately will not count towards the total of the PledgeMe campaign.
We will ammend the total funds raised shortly on the campaign page to reflect the total amount minus those that needed US charitable receipts. If you need a US charitable receipt, please email The Gift Trust at [email protected] and note that you are donating to SpaceBase. On the bright side, those funds pledged separately will get to Spacebase no matter what the outcomes of the PledgeMe campaign might be.
If you have any questions about recieving a US charitable receipt, please don't hesitate to contact us directly.
Thank you for your support!
