A Technology & Tourism hub in our historical country pub

Tolaga Bay Inn is one of our last remaining historical hotels on the East Coast of New Zealand.  As Kaitiaki (guardians) it is our responsibility to look after our land, people and environment, including our iconic old Inn.  She has looked after us for over 130 years,  providing shelter, nourishment and social gatherings for our local community and visitors.  It is time we gave back, to help regain her strength and beauty to last another hundred years.

She in return, will become our mother ship to help foster tourism and digital technology development, creating jobs and business opportunities for our local people.  With an onsite information centre, business support services and computer training facilities, she can help regenerate our community from within.  We will develop adventure tourism experiences including eeling tours, crayfish tours, historical guided tours and cultural experiences by our local people.

Our plan

But we can't do it alone.  As Ahi Kaa- we need your help to keep the home fires burning.  Our Ta Koha campaign is to raise a minimum of $50,000 and maximum of $200,000 to help kick start our projects.  To redevelop our space into a technology and tourism hub in our historic country pub. To provide incubation services, back office administration and business support to our local  tourism start-up operators.  To reopen our information centre this summer.  To further develop our digital technology in-house training in collaboration with Digital Wings, 20/20 Trust, Stepping Up and Code Club to teach social media, online business, video editing and coding.  To make several immediate repairs required to be functional for our tourist season, including plumbing, hot water and electrical repairs.  We would like to spruce her up with a semi make-over and add local artwork throughout the communal areas.  Our dual heritage will be promoted by having both Maori and English signage and menus.  We will encourage the usage of conversational Maori for people to practice and learn within a safe and friendly environment.

As a pledger, not only will you be part of a legacy in the making, but you'll get some cool rewards too!... like beautiful hand crafted gifts from our local artists, free accommodation, annual membership discounts,...Or you could simply sponsor nanny a hangi, or sponsor a child computer training, crayfishing trips, hunting trips, naming rights, whatever your budget allows, from $10 to $10,000, there's a reward with your name on it.

Like the flax, we are stronger woven together to carry the load.

Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi engari, takimano no aku tipuna - (Not by the might of one but the might of many, from our ancestors to us).

Kia ora koutou katoa.
