Hey everyone, We would like to introduce ourselves, we are Naomi & Wesley Brookes, Naomi is from here in New Zealand, and she came to England in 2012 on a working holiday visa, and picked up more than she bargained! We met almost as soon as she arrived in England, and we have worked together in the UK for the last 5 years until she brought me home to New Zealand, where we have now settled.

we just wanted to give you a bit of our back story on how we have secured our first restaurant and business, and also our dreams.

We first saw our venue in December 2017 when we went on a short break to Paihia for our wedding anniversary, and we were going to stop at what was 'The Cider Shed' in Warkworth on our way home for dinner, however, when we arived there, it was closed :(. I wasn't sure whether that was just for the day, or forever, we later found out that it was closed forever. We thought to ourselves, what a cool venue this could be.

4 months later in April, we learned that the venue had become available so we did some sums, and decided that we would love to reopen the place, after much negotiation, we signed the paperwork, 'The cider shed' is ours! Next on our list was a new name, this was so hard, nothing stuck, we thought some more, and decided that 'The Red House' suited it, and we both liked it, so we decided on that. Welcome to The Red House.

Next on our list was to secure some finance from the bank. We have finally secured a business loan, however, we feel that to make the best of this venue, we still need some more funding, and that is why we have thought it'd be a great idea to try Pledgeme. You can help us to improve your new family bar / restaurant and in return, we can offer you some great rewards. About us...

My wife is a Kiwi and I am British, we have been in hospitality for about 40 years combined, my wife front of house and myself a chef, it has always been my dream to have my own restaurant, to cook the dishes I want to cook with the injected passion of knowing it's my wife and I's name on the restaurant, to build our own brand and indeed reputation. We want to do things a little bit different than everyone else, we want to make it easier for people with allergens or special dietery needs to order a meal, knowing they don't have to wonder whether their meal has gluten in it, or whether it is vegan etc. This is our philosophy and the direction we are aiming for. We want to be a very entertaining establishment, lots of activities for children in a safe environment, we want to host live events, music, car shows, we're even looking into the legalities of showing movies in our beer garden on a large projector screen with bean bags, under the summer skies, we want to be your destination of choice when it comes to daytime and evening entertainment.

As you can see, quite a bit of work is needed to get her looking great but we have some ideas ready to try.

What will your funding be spent on?

We want to be the best family bar / restaurant. Period. We want to keep your children entertained whilst you enjoy a nice cold drink and a grazer or a meal from our menu whilst the kids play in our beer garden with lots of activities for them to choose from. Your donations will help us to purchase outdoor games such as Connect 4, pick up sticks, giant Jenga etc, the older kids can have a game of rugby or soccer at the back of the garden away from everyone else. We also have a stage which we want to utilise, we thought it would be fun to have a kids disco complete with lighting and fog, the kids will love it. Also, to keep the kids safe, we want to build a fence along the edge of the beer garden to block off the car park from the kids, so you don't have to worry. Finally, we are hoping to host movie nights under the stars, imagine being able to go to your local, grabbing a beer and a bite to eat and lazing on a giant bean bag watching a movie in the garden under the stars! We want to make it happen, and you can help us to make it happen. Please, help us to give you the best bar experience in the area, and indeed, in the North!
