About

The "Worlds" 2013

Project 2012-09-26 04:09:28 +1200

My Name is Lyn McHugh I am Celtic Kiwi Photography. In 2013 four grade 1 NZ Pipe Bands plus a junvenile college band will be heading to Europe to compete against the world in their respective grades,,.

My websites www.celtic-kiwi.photoshelter.com  and  www.celtic-kiwi-photography.co.nz

I plan to photograph their preparation and their competitions in Europe. The purpose of this wee exercise is to turn my photographs into a book documenting a very important aspect of New Zealand’s Cultural heritage, the successes, the laughter, the tears of our competing Pipe Bands from down under …. Like our talented New Zealand sports teams / people who are inspiring generations of New Zealanders with their accomplishments, our Pipe Bands and soloists also deserve to be recognised for their accomplishments . Over the last few years I have photographed so many very young talented up and coming pipers and drummers, who have years of dedicated practice ahead of them, attending both local and New Zealand wide competitions, with one common goal a dream of competing on the European scene. The aim of my work is to contribute to those dreams, to inspire, educate and motivate to achieve. The Pipe Band movement in NZ is not widely followed, and yet NZ has just about as many if not more Pipe Bands than Scotland and bringing this aspect of our wonderful heritage more into the lives of the New Zealand public, showing there is more to our Pipe Band scene than heading the Christmas and other Parades.

Part 1  of my project.to photograph the bands build up to the Worlds in 2013 this will cost approximately $2000 in travel and accommodation around New Zealand.

Part 2 To travel to Edinburgh spend 4 - 6 weeks photographing European competitions featuring New Zealand Bands and Solo Pipers and Drummers

Part 3 will be show casing my work in exhibitions and putting together into a published book.
