About

Manawa

Project 2012-09-18 05:00:15 +1200

Manawa is a new play by Jamie McCaskill which explores the NZ justice system through 3 dynamic and compeling characters. A humorous and poignant play, Manawa follows the journey of New Zealand's youngest murderer, Jimmy King, who shares a cell with public enemy number one, Mau Vaiaga, who was arrested for killing a native bird. Manawa aims to bring the heart out of these characters. And even though you might not agree with the characters decisions, you may understand them. Accompanied by an ambient and melodic live soundscape Manawa will take you on a journey that will resonate with you for days to come.

QUOTES

A truly exceptional piece of theatre - The Dominion Post

The concluding moment issues the most confronting wero to New Zealand audiences since Foreskin asked us, “Whaddarya?” -  John Smythe – Theatreview

Great story telling, thought provoking, beautifully acted and directed, funny and painfully relevant Lynn Freeman - Capital Times

Swagger. Shifting sympathies. Kakapo. And the most ballsy ending ever. Superb show - Bevin Linkhorn/Facebook

This show is laugh-out-loud funny! McCaskill's performance, particularly, is a sight to behold and Simon Donald's live score adds a great dimension to the production. SEE IT! - Phil Grieve/Facebook

Tikapa productions is a Production Company committed to developing NZ performing artists and showcasing high quality work and striving towards producing another facet of kaupapa maori performing arts. Manawa is Tikapa Productions first production and are committed to seeing it through to it's full potential

.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

Manawa is travelling to The Basement Theatre in Auckland for a 2 week season from October 23 - November 2nd. We are looking to raise $5,000 to help fund for venue hire, publicity and to go towards all the contributing artists for their time and exceptional talent. Unfortunately funding wasn't allocated to us this year and costs exceed what Tikapa Productions can cover.
