Help A Kiwi Designer Get To San Francisco!

Project 2016-04-23 16:21:05 +1200

The Story

While attending a business sales and marketing jam earlier this year, I met Savannah Peterson, a member of the Forbes 30 under 30 list. Savannah an experienced and successful entrepreneur and speaker, has invited me to San Francisco to introduce me to some of the most recognised and influential design schools and businesses in the world, including Stanford University’s ‘d’ school, IDEO, Shapeways and Autodesk on pier 9.

This is an opportunity I cannot afford to miss!

Savannah Peterson

Who Am I

My Name is Glenn Catchpole. I am an Industrial Designer with a 1st class honors degree in design. I have a passion for using design to solve complex problems within our everyday lives. I enjoy exploring the relationships people have with their possessions and how design can evoke emotion and desirability with these objects

As a designer, researcher and educator at Massey University, I am in the beginnings of starting up a business in sustainable zero waste homeware. I focus in creating sustainable and desirable products through a process of creative pattern making. Over the past year I’ve been developing a method for eliminating waste in the production of flat pack furniture and educational tools. I have a passion to design and make cool stuff for others.

How will San Francisco help?

Visiting San Francisco to spend some time with Savannah and her friends at some of the most influential schools and businesses in the world will broaden my understanding of design thinking and manufacturing. I will grow my network of like-minded individuals who may wish to work alongside me to achieve a common goal of making our mark on the world.

The experience will unlock opportunities that I could have never dreamed of by remaining in New Zealand. No doubt, the trip will result in even cooler and more innovative products to be designed in the future.

Expenses

Flights $2200
Accommodation $1500
General Expenses $1000
Total $4700

Rewards

Time is running short. I have just a couple of months. In exchange for your generosity, I have put together a number of exciting rewards for you. All of the rewards have been designed by myself (apart from the clothing items, which are made by my mother). All the rewards have been handmade with pride precision and care.
