About

Top Secret

Project 2012-09-06 05:26:55 +1200

‘Top Secret’ is the name of the Domestic Violence Art Installation which will be in Downtown Square (QE2 Square), Auckland between the dates of the 23rd - 26th of November 2012, which also incorporates White Ribbon Day.

My name is Mandalina Stanisich, this will be my second public installation in Auckland city. My first installation was in the Britomart Train Station for ‘Stroke Awareness Week’ in September 2010 (please see photo above).  I have always strived to display my works in public places as it is very important to me that the installations are accessible to all.

Please see the following links for information on myself and my past project.

Domestic violence is a heart-breaking reality in many New Zealand households. Statistics show that one in three woman experience psychological or physical abuse from their partners and the police are called out to 200 domestic violence situations in New Zealand every day. I have driven this project since August 2011 and am very pleased to have secured a great venue for what I believe will be a thought-provoking installation which portrays the reality of domestic violence in a subtle but arresting way.

This year, I am doing an outdoor art installation highlighting domestic violence in our community and my partner in this venture is Shine*. Shine* as a proven record of providing safer homes for New Zealand families and they have kindly acknowledged that they will support and work alongside my efforts to help raise awareness. Other organisations will also be invited to participate.

While I’ve been fortunate enough to have never personally been in an abusive environment, but I have seen the emotional and physical effects of domestic violence and the painful scars that are left behind.

In order to construct this installation I am looking to raise the total of $10,000. This art installation can have a positive affect in this environment and if it stops one person from resorting to violence, it therefore is one step closer to creating a safer community.
