THE TRICKLE DOWN EFFECT
Project 2016-01-26 18:19:58 +1300
Pat-A-Cake plunge deep into the NZ inequality crisis with their latest physical endeavour. Playful action and loaded interaction with the only thing that’s trickling down in this economic climate presents more than a splashy fringe favourite. The Trickle Down Effect is a visual, visceral platform that invites everyone to understand more about our disparity of income, so that we can connect towards voicing our urgent need to reprioritise and equalise.
For this new feather in Pat-A-Cake’s shower cap to be realized, we need help building The Trickle Set -- because without it, we wouldn’t have our fifth performer in the cast… water!
Sustainability is the new black – we need to create a set that can guarantee actor safety, enable our special guest to perform, and of course, be as environmentally friendly as we can manage. We need to be able to capture the water so that it doesn’t go straight down the gurgler with our economy. So we need a big tank, pumps, hoses, non-slip pond liner…
We’re committed to finding all possible ways to re-use the set components after the Fringe season , and will offer all useful pieces back to our Pat-A-Whanau for future projects so that your generosity can live on.
Alana and Ashleigh are our two masters-qualified interior architectural designers who have a wealth of experience in design and sustainable construction for theatre events, including Summer Shakespeare’s Timon of Athens. Their ideas for this innovative set are in full-flow!
‘This set has a voice and a body. Alana and Ashleigh are co-creating the action of The Trickle Down Effect and the set has a lot to say! They have an amazing knack for finding so many recyclable and cost-free ways to whip elements of the set up for us to play with, so I know audiences will love seeing what their resource contribution has unlocked!’ says director, Bop Murdoch.
The 3D metaphor in The Trickle Down Effect provides cathartic visual engagement with the number one issue for New Zealanders, puts the unseen on show and invites everyone to know more, so that we can stop accepting the gap, and start connecting. We want to build awareness and engagement so that we can become hopeful about the more equal society that we need, where everyone would be better off.
If you have experienced a Pat-A-Project before, you’ll know that this show is an invitation to engage with a conversation that can’t afford to wait.
