Volunteering In Zambia

Hi Everyone!

My Name is Saskia Jaenecke and I am a 17-year-old student from Lower Hutt, New Zealand.

As I explain in the video, at my school during the last year we take part in a big project - called a Class 12 Project - that carries on throughout the whole year. If you would like to read more about what these projects involve, please click the link below:

http://www.raphaelhouse.school.nz/curriculum/upper-school/class-12-projects/

My Project:

So for the practical part of my Class 12 Project I have decided to travel to Livingstone, Zambia (in Africa) to volunteer there for 6 weeks! I am so incredibly excited about this project - I want it to be as much of a life-changing experience as possible!

But as well as being an amazing experience, and an opportunity for personal development, I will be helping and contributing towards the lives of many other people in the community of Livingstone - people who are not as well off as we are here in NZ!

I will be working together with the organisation African Impact, and will be taking part in two 3-week projects from 22nd December 2014 - 2nd February 2015. A big part of it will be teaching or working with children (which I love!), but there will also be opportunties to work in the wider community. To check out my project with African Impact, as well as the other amazing projects they run please click the link below:

Why PledgeMe?

So altogether this project has become very expensive unfortunately! Yes I am volunteering - but these days that costs money too, as organisations need to be able to maintain their projects and pay their staff. But as well as that there are flights and countless vaccinations to add to the list of expenses.

Over the last half year I have been doing as much fundraising and working as possible - but this alone wont be enough to get me to Africa!

I'm lucky to have my parents - Victoria & Martin - who have been doing an amazing job in supporting me both financially and organisationally - but also by just believing in me and helping me make it all possible! So thanks Mum & Dad!

I decided on sharing my goals via PledgeMe as it's a great way for me to hopefully bring across my enthusiasm for this project, and perhaps persuade some of you to join me in making my adventure possible! My target is to reach $2000 which is a little less than a quarter of the total cost of the project - but will definitely go a long way in helping make this project much more achievable!

All Proceeds From Your Pledges Will Go Towards:

  • Flights
  • Organisation Fees
  • Visas
  • Vaccinations + Medical Costs
  • Supplies such as paper, pencils etc. to give to children there

Thank You So Much For Your Support - I Appreciate It So Much!

Love To All,

Saskia Jaenecke
