We are a group of students who are in their second year of architecture school. For our current project we have to come up with an installation that will be displayed in Christchurch for an event called Cityups. The idea of the event is to reoccupy Christchurch City with the goal to encourage and rebuild the city. The theme of the night is 'Future is Live', so our installation is based around bringing what we believe the future is to Christchurch.

Our installation consists of rejected plastic bottle that in a way creates occupiable space with LED par cans lighting up the bottles. The public can write a message of love and encouragement and insert them into the bottles.

Our story...

The bottles are a symbol of physical rejection due to their imperfections. They become metaphorical of the broken pieces of Christchurch - buildings, people, and families – lost and uncertain of their future. Through this installation we intend rediscover the significance and potential of each of these precious fragmented pieces. In this way, the thousands of bottles, together, stand for the thousands of people, each of equal importance, who are striving to work together to create a stronger, more resilient community. It will be a visually and physically powerful structure that showcases the unlimited potential of thousands of pieces reuniting together. Ultimately, the resultant structure proves to be greater than the sum of its parts.
