Ukulele the jumping flea! As it was named long ago, fun fabulous they make people smile!

I hear them now far far away in the land of the long white cloud, they are calling you!

The Palmy Ukulele Festival presented by Jennifer Moss Music, is coming up and I want to cohost a multi-artist exhibition of ukulele-themed art

'The Uke Fest Art Quest!' All around the Manawatu artists are busy upcycling and illuminating ukuleles and your only limitation is your creativity.

Decorate, illustrate, embellish, adorn, ornament, enhance, emblazon, paint, photograph and write poems around the theme of ukuleles. All artist are welcome! Find us on Facebook

Kia Ora my name is Pania Molloy an artist in Palmerston North and I make all kinds of art from graffiti murals to art dolls. I was asked if I would like to have my own art show during the Palmerston North Ukulele Festival, my time in the gallery would be from 30th to the 8th of September held at Square Edge, 47 The Square, Palmy. The only criteria is that the art works are themed around ukuleles, so literally go crazy. I agreed, but not wanting to hog the spot light, I asked some of my friends and craft groups if they would like to collaborate with me.  They did!

Vocalist & Instrumentalist Jennifer Moss

W.A.I. (The Women's Art Initiative - making art in response to violence)

S.P.E.L.A.D.D. Palmerston North (NZ dyslexia art group )

Wooly Riot Palmerston North (yarn bombing artists)

These groups and other artists have come on board even from as far as the USA. I want to make their contributions recognised with the value they deserve. I know I can pull off a simple exhibition with the basics and let the art rock the show! Though I'm hoping with pledgeme I can make it even better!

This is going to be a whimsical and quirky exhibition which will appeal to all ages and leave a big smile on your face. Please help us make the exhibition as good as possible by making a donation. We are fund-raising towards costs of materials, exhibition-space-hire, promotional costs and paying for the shipping of an art-work from the USA. All of the artists are donating their talent and creativity, we just need some help from you to make the exhibition sparkle and shine!

Thank you so very much for your time and generosity.

A poem by  Todd Taiepa

Ukulele Melee

Ukulele melee, notes were strewn across the floor

There were colours strung in piles, footsteps stacked up to the door,

from the dancing, soul enhancing, smiles capture the amore.

Hands were smoking, from evoking, everything that they could draw,

from a ukulele string, the players strum, the crowd in awe

And all express their happiness, joy unbound their spirits soar.

So join our ukulele melee, don’t be shy our ranks adore,

Your openness, subtle finesse, these simple traits we can’t ignore.

For when ukulele speaks there’s something simple, something bold.

And we can recreate our world anew, with chords from worlds of old …

It’s an echo that calls out to us, awakened from our sleep.

It’s the quiet tune that’s always there, the faith to take the leap.

Open up your eyes and see the things that you have put away,

All the lightness and the colour and the child’s call to play.

So you can say your affirmations, meditate or bow to pray.

But the medicine that we prescribes your own ukulele!

Kia ora koutou how are we all? so much going with the Palmy Uke Festival I got caught up in the all the fun at square edge yesterday the people and the music, so much so that I did buy a uke to play! and of course just to paint it too.

Most of all I would like to thank you for being the artists you all are and taking part in the event, I'm so grateful most of you were able to enter your works but I've been overjoyed to see the huge variety of art ideas and styles.
