The Paper Golem
Project 2012-05-01 03:20:38 +1200
after spending the last year repairing homes in Christchurch we intend to travel to Israel from september to november, we will experience the festival of Succot (where people live in temporary buildings to celebrate the escape from slavery).
We will perform puppet theatre,
paint mural celebrating freedom.
And produce a short film about the temporary building as escape from oppression.
So What's a Golem?
And several of the sages are said to have created livestock (from clay) to prevent the people staving in times of famine.
Or even created a man from clay or ashes to carry out rescue missions (The Golem).
We may not be that holy but we sure create magical things.
(in modern hebrew the term Golem is used to mean that someone is intellectually slow, we of course object to this usage)
Why 'Paper Golem'?
The Golem
working with true papier-mâché (just paper-pulp no glue or paste) (papier-mâché - french "chewed paper") which Rif works like clay shaping the puppets.
The Ziz
Mural
And has been invited to contribute to an artists gathering in Haifa during Succot.
