UPDATE 28/3/13: NEW POSTER, LAST CHANCE...
Last few days to add your support, would be super ace fantastico to see it tick up to the last goal. Next posters by popular demand are Queenstown and Wanaka. Newest available poster is St Clair, Dunedin (a2 size)...

UPDATE 19/3/13: MILESTONE REACHED!
Stoked to see we've ticked over the $1500 mark. Which means we've also topped the $1450 target for a new poster. I'll announce it in a few days, and in the meantime feel free to tell me what it should be... below or on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/inkbignz
I've also added the Pleasant Point poster below, bringing the South Canterbury series to nine.

UPDATE 12/3/13: NEW REWARD - FRAMED PRINTS!
I've had some people ask about framing the posters, so I've been talking to a friendly framer and will be offering a deal for people on pledgeme: Framed A2 prints for $100 (ie $75 for the framing). The frames are either black or white, and minimal enough to not overwhelm the posters. I'll upload a photo when I have one.

UPDATE 11/3/13: NEW POSTER
We ticked over the first $250+, so the first additional poster will be of Dunedin - thanks to all the people that requested it. Feel free to bug me on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/inkbignz) if you have a request. Next poster milestone is $1400 - put in your request.

UPDATE 9/3/13 : WE'RE FAMOUS!

There's an article on us in the Timaru Herald/on stuff.co.nz. View it at this link.

UPDATE: THANK YOU SO MUCH!  Very exciting to see the support from everyone. Looks like you've smashed that target in just 5 days! All systems are go. But wait, there's more…. In the back of my mind there were things I've wanted to do if it became possible. Now it's happening, here's some of my plans for the future and opportunities you can help me take:

New Posters every $250.
To celebrate making the initial goal I'm going to make a new poster for every $250 raised past it. These will be of the most requested locations (big or small), so make a comment in the section below if you have a request - especially if you're selecting the 'Future Poster' rewards.

New Target: $1500
Help Ink Big grow. Help me take it to the next level. I want to get posters into stores, starting in South Canterbury towns like Fairlie, Geraldine and Waimate. If we reach this mark, I'll also be able to integrate a sweet credit card ordering & payment system for the website - which means you all will be able to use your 50% discount with no hassle at all. Nice.

$2000: Help me celebrate and promote.
If we reach $2000 I'll put on an exhibition, and invite everyone for a party.  We'll dress up nice, have some drinks and nibbles, and dance the night away. Of course, you'll all get invites and there will probably be themed cocktails to match the posters. This will also help promote Ink Big on a wider scale, to people who may not be aware of it.

INK BIG

I'm Gareth and I want to make posters. Travel posters. Big ones.

Posters of the sort of places that DESERVE a poster. Places that are interesting and unique, and posters that you won't get anywhere else.

So, I want you to help me to start up a little business I'm calling 'Ink Big'. I'm looking for enough to start doing some super big special hand screen printed posters, printing smaller samples, and enough to cover setup costs for a simple little website to sell them.

Once that's happening, I think it can be self sustaining. And speaking of sustaining, I'm looking to use quality sustainable options wherever I can. From paper stock to ink pigments. Just so you know.

At this point, I'll be printing B1 size (really big) hand screen printed, and A2 size (double an A3) art print posters. See below for an idea of how big that is.

Rewards

Aside from that little bit of 'cool' and self-satisfaction that comes with being involved with something before everyone else.... you'll get posters! You can either choose get a credit for purchase of a future poster, or one (or more) of a series based in South Canterbury.

Everyone who pledges will also receive a 50% discount on an additional purchase once the website is up and running.

South Canterbury Series

Since I believe in local, I thought I'd start with where I am. From Mt Cook to the Pacific Ocean, there's plenty near here for consideration. I'm planning a set of about 9, but only  5  (now six!) will be available as the big screen prints, unless there's demand for others.

Here's what they'll look like (Fairlie, Mt John, and Caroline Bay will also be available in other colours)....

Pukaki

Caroline Bay

Fairlie

Mt John

Geraldine

Cave

Waimate

St Andrews

Pleasant Point

B1 South Canterbury set:

These are the real deal, hand pulled screen prints - on archival paper using sustainably sourced ink. You can order them seperately, as a set of 6, or as a set of your choice of 5.

A2 Size & Alternate design/colour versions

Fairlie, Caroline Bay, Mt John have colour variations. Contact Me if you have special requests.

Circle variations in the works too…

Future Plans

Ideally i'd like to do a series in a slightly different style - based around NZ great walks (Milford, Tongariro crossing, Whanganui river), and also NZ cities & national parks. Recreating versions of classic NZ rail posters would also be fun.

I'd also eventually like to get different artists involved. A 'Guest designer doing their home town' sort of thing. Maybe.

I'm open to suggestions.

Update: Thanks, and a New Poster!

02/03/2013 at 1:15 AM

So, a big thanks everyone for your support. It's ace! As it looks like we'll tick over the target I've decided to add some things to keep it interesting. (More info later).

1 new B1 poster
Due to demand, I'm making the Caroline bay poster also available as a big B1 size. People who order the B1 set of 5 will be able to choose which 5 posters they prefer.

I'll also add a new reward so you can get the whole set of six for $155 - which, FYI is about 30% discount off getting them individually, which are, omg already discounted from the price they'll be selling at later.

Postage
I should note again, that postage within NZ is also included in the reward cost. Sweet.

Requests
Opinions? Requests? I'm willing to take your opinions into account. Not sure the best way to do this, but you're welcome to leave a message if you want a smaller version, or postcards, or t-shirts. Obviously, there's no guarantees any action will be taken but you never know.

Awesome response! (and postage)

01/03/2013 at 2:56 AM

Just a wee note to say that I'm stoked at the response this has received, and very grateful. :-)

Postage

To clarify, postage is included free with the pledge cost so you don't have to worry about that.
