About

Youth Come Out Of Their Bubble! Youth Taking Action, In The Kitchen And On The Farm.

Project 2021-04-06 19:50:54 +1200

We team up with local schools and families to engage youth in community-based enterprises, mentoring and showing care that enables all youth to participate – becoming positive contributors at home, at school and in their communities.

Community-Based Enterprises;

- a commercial production kitchen and bakery

- youth training kitchen and café

- regenerative vegetable farms

We support schools by providing dedicated and equipped learning spaces, and specialist knowledge, to enhance existing school programs or to start one. We connect the student, the school, the business community and the public - these connections bring interest and positive interactions.

The Farming Workshops are an Opportunity to Team Up

We began working with our first school in 2015 and have since fitted out a purpose-built facility with fully equipped youth training kitchen, bakery and teaching spaces.  We have also set up two small working farms with needed equipment and hothouses.  The infrastructure is in place with 350 youth booked into our programs for 2021, that is 100 more young people taking part than last year.  We have the capacity for all of these students to take part in high quality programs, but we need to share the financial burden with you.  The minimum target is $5000, however it costs $200 per student per month.  ALL revenue from the community enterprises support our youth, you can be confident as you look through the rewards - your pledge is going to make a difference.

"Learning is enabled when every child and young person has regular access to high quality and inclusive learning opportunities. Learning and education involve much more than preparing young people for future employment. It should empower all children and young people, their families and whanau to establish their own values, connect to their community, set and realise their goals, and live their best lives today and in the future." (the Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy 2019).

“Ensuring we love, care and nurture all our children and young people throughout their lives is the most important task we have” – Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern, Minister for Child Poverty Reduction.

Learning opportunities and experiences develop social, cultural, emotional and cognitive competencies, including resilience, critical thinking and relating well to others. Education has an important role in supporting children and young people to develop knowledge, competencies and characteristics to be successful in life, and to contribute to their family and whanau, and their communities. Children and young people learn better when they are engaged, safe and included.
