Collab Project with Fringe
The Wellington Fringe Festival is an open-access festival held every summer involving a wide range of shows across all artforms in venues throughout the city.
THE SHOW
Stand Up For Charlie is a play developed by Slave Labour Productions for the Wellington Fringe Festival 2013.
What does it take to roast a dead man?
A group of stand up comedians deal with grief, guilt and responsibility after the celebrity they verbally destroy at a comedy roast commits suicide.
When the comedians are offered by a seedy entertainment manager the chance to take part in a 'Post Roast' - a comedy roast dedicated to the already dead Charlie, questions, emotions and the dead are all raised, as the nature of comedy and the power of words are put on display.
A dark comedy centred on the people who make us laugh for a living, and an examination of what it means to get a laugh out of an audience -- and just how far we'll go to do it.
THE TEAM
Slave Labour Productions is a new collective formed by Chris Swney, Will Agnew and Bronwyn Cheyne, whose powers combined give them the drive to create unique, kick arse theatre with an edge.
The love child of Victoria University's Theatre Department, Long Cloud Theatre and the International Institute of Modern Letters's Scriptwriting programme, Slave Labour Productions is determined to produce quality entertainment - and what better way to get rolling than with the Fringe Festival.
