About

Honey Honey Honey, Let's Save Some Bees And The Humans

Project 2019-06-05 14:45:02 +1200

Business kick start By planting Manuka trees on our 50ha hill site we will be able to produce high grade Manuka Honey products to sell on the international market.

We are a private couple that have seen a lot of pain and suffering with modern medicines and chemicals being over used for healthcare and food production. We want to leave our little part of the world in a better state than we came into it. I have a construction / business planning background with over 20yrs in the industry.  My partner has a natural therapies background with several qualifications in Bowen and Reiki and practices with her own business which has been operating for over 2 years now. We are both passionate about health, natural foods and separating ourselves from the medicated world of the Pharmaceutical industry.  We have established a company for simplicity of managing costs, taxation and general business practises. Trading in food products also has liabilities that are more easily managed as a business.

Our long term goal is for a productive business that is sustainable both organically and financially, provides natural products grown with organic principles, is good for the environment and is good for people not only in the local community but in the wider reagion. We are realistic, we know we will never have the resources to change the entire world and we are not a 1980's Miss Universe wanting world peace, we are passionate about our beliefs in sustainabile health and want to give something back. The dream has been over 5 years in the making and we have pumped as much of our own funding into getting things started as we can afford at this stage which has allowed us to purchase a large piece of land that we can continue to develop over time.  We have had to wait several years for the cut down pine trees to rot down into the soil ready for new planting and the next 6-12 months is the prime time for the land to take new plantings.

We now need help to fund the remainder of the site clearance, fencing repairs and replacement works. Our dream started by wanting to save honey bees as they are the pollinators of the planet and have been in decline around the world for many years now. One of the many advantages of being able to save bees is their ability to provide natural food products. This developed from being a single hive in our own back yard to become a full business model that after a few years could self fund and lead into bee cultivating and hive growth and employ local people to help run it. The business model can then be replicated on other sites for other people to do similar projects for a variety of food and well being products.

Funding will generally be as:

$65,000 to clear the remaining site and remove debris, generally for the use of heavy machinery to access the steep site. Costs include approx $10,000 to $15,000 for traffic management and public safety based on the duration of the boundary works which is subject to weather.

$35,000 to repair existing fences for pest control, there is around 3000m of basic wire boundary fencing with 80% needing repair or replacement, build new gates for security and to prevent hive theft. 1 gate has been stolen and the other gate severally damaged.

$25,000 to repair existing tracks and roads within the site to maintain access.

Providing this early stage funding will allow us to plan the purchase and planting of trees for the 2020 planting season allowing honey production within 2 years of the planting.
