PROJECT FLUSH - Ngatiawa River Monastery Needs A New Septic System!!

Ngatiawa River Monastery and 'Project Flush'

Ngatiawa River Monastery was born in the 1960's, as Presbyterian youth 'Ngatiawa Camp', and had its rebirth 15 years ago when Jenny and Justin Duckworth bought the place and started doing it up. It's a contemporary monastery that started on a prayer, and continues to run on koha, generosity, and miracles, literally! We are the contemplative 'motherhouse' of Urban Vision, and a missional order of the Anglican Church.

Who / What is Ngatiawa?

We are a community of prayer and hospitality, that makes supportive accommodation / retreat space available (both short and longterm) - for those who wish to connect deeply with God and intentional community: with a particular calling to people who wouldn't normally access this due to a lack of resource. We also host many community, youth and church groups who use our space, particularly in the weekends. We host Passionfest, the Jesus/Community/Justice festival once a year. We would love to keep doing this flavour of hospitality at Ngatiawa.

HOWEVER, We have found that we are in the poo with our Septic System.

After 50 years of faithfully flushing, it needs MAJOR upgrading. And so we turn to our friends! Our vision is that via crowdsourcing- we will get the word out even wider, to help pull in the funds so we can continue to do the *business* of what we do. (that was a pun by the way-we aren't a business! We're actually a registered Charitable Trust- 'Ngatiawa Retreat Trust', please email if you want a tax deductible receipt for your donation! or for any other info: [email protected] )

Between February and March this year Stage 1= $15,000 = Septic Tank and Electrics was completed!! Thanks to many of our Passionfest friends who pledged and donated to make this a reality!

We are now at: Stage 2 = Quoted by Kiwigreen at $50,000. This is huge, and will pay for trucks and diggers, labour costs, piping, and installation of a grey water system. Without this, the project is incomplete, and we will not be able to host large numbers of people.

We need your help! We are trying to Crowdfund : $20,000

Some of this will go to cover:

Pledgeme fees: $1300

Incentives/Gifts and postage: $175

The rest will go: Straight to the Septic system job

$20,000. That feels like a LOT of money. We are hoping to go way over this amount, cos we actually need more than that. We need a $50,000 miracle all up!

We are also doing grant applications to a number of trusts, however there aren't many that help with infrastructure maintenance costs.

If this crowdfunding thing works and we go OVER $50,000 (which would be amaaaazing!) we also have our Driveway that needs re-doing....(remember Passionfest 2017?).

So... PLEASE SUPPORT US!

This can come in the form of

  • money! Pledge and choose your prize -------->>> on the right!
  • facebook sharing this page!
  • emailing your friends/ family
  • emailing us if you know of a philanthropist or millionaire who loves Ngatiawa and wants to help!
  • prayer - cos we believe in a God that cares about even these kinds of details!

Thanks friends!

We are grateful for this opportunity to witness another Ngatiawa Miracle story xx

Gemma on behalf of the Ngatiawa River Monastery Whānau

WE REACHED $20 GRAND! Can we go even further??

02/05/2017 at 9:01 PM

Friends, Pledgers, Loved ones

Last night we rolled into our Pledgeme Target - $20,000! We made it!! A humongous thank you to each of you generous and faithful ones. We literally couldn't do this without you. It has been so encouraging to see people joining together, helping make a Ngatiawa project come true.

The question on my mind is: How far can we go - though? We actually still need another $25,000 to fully complete this project (and though we have applied for grants- at this point we haven't received any - eeek!).

Imagine if we could crowd source the full cost!! That would be most ideal :) however we do only have 6 more days...

So - our final request for this final 6 days is: Please keep spreading the word and sharing the love!

Arohanui,

Gemma for Ngatiawa River Monastery whānau
