I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart

It is dusk. Two men are in bed. They have just had sex - or were they making love? Over the course of one conversation we discover that they have been here, together, before. But where will they go from here? "I Let a Song Go Out of My Heart" is a short dramatic film, an anti-romance about the ways people keep themselves from loving one another.
"I Let a Song Go Out of My Heart" will be roughly 15 minutes long, shot with two actors in two locations. Our goal is to secure funding for a shoot conducted over 3 nights in September 2013 and our budget is approximately $10,000. Help us cover production costs for this unique piece of Kiwi cinema!

MEET THE CAST AND CREW - Kieran Charnock, Editor

Kieran is an actor, filmmaking multihyphenate and musician. Born in Wales, he spent his childhood and teenage years divided between the UK and New Zealand. He studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, took part in a TEFL course in Prague and has been part of the Wellington-based Long Cloud Theatre Company since 2011. During his studies he won the Battison Award for Best Drama Performance and the Westpac Award for Best Drama Student. In 2012 he toured with the Ugly Shakespeare Company and worked as a stunt double on “The Hobbit”. He is currently working as a freelance editor, director and film technician under the label ReSeeIt and is in the pitching stage for the TV pilot “NZ: Live on Stage” and developing the script for another, “Unfamiliar”.

MEET THE CAST AND CREW - Kiran Matthews, Director of Photography

Kiran was born in Leeds and spent the first 8 years of his life in the UK before moving to New Zealand. Since 2010 he has resided in Wellington where he has been studying Media & Design Innovation and directing and photographing films, including the 2011 feature “You’re Dead, Ted”. He is the Creative Director of the Wellington-based Designgel design firm, and the developer of the independent, web-based journalism project NWZ which met its PledgeMe goal of $4000 this year.

MEET THE CAST AND CREW - Francis Gordon, Actor ("The Kiwi")

Francis was born in Glasgow and spent his childhood between the UK and New Zealand. He has been based in Wellington since 2011 after spending ten years in Dunedin. He is an accomplished painter whose works are inspired by pixel art and classic video games. His paintings have been shown in galleries around New Zealand such as Fancy Pigeon and Matchbox and have sold both locally and overseas. He is also the creator of the Every Demographic web comic. “I Let a Song Go Out of My Heart” is his first professional acting role.

MEET THE CAST AND CREW - Nikolaus Garmel, Actor ("The Foreigner")

Nikolaus - Niko to his friends - was born in Kazakhstan to German parents and raised in Dillingen in Bavaria. He worked as a bank clerk for 7 years and studied Economics at the BOS Neu-Ulm where he was active in drama. Scouted while on a working holiday in New Zealand, he has extended his stay to accommodate the shooting of “I Let a Song Go Out of My Heart”, which is his first professional acting role.

MEET THE CAST AND CREW - Johnny Crawford, Producer

Originally from Timaru, Johnny has been living in Wellington since 2008. An alumnus of Victoria University, he has been working on independent film and theatre productions since 2010, including nine with his friend and collaborator Slayton Hurst Bourdon (with whom he is a founding member of the Beefilm production house) and five directorial credits. As part of the Making Friends theatre collective he produced the critically acclaimed 2013 Fringe Festival production Rageface, which was nominated for the Best Newcomer award at the festival. He is also on the committee of the Wellington Film Society.

MEET THE CAST AND CREW - Slayton Hurst Bourdon, Director/writer

Slayton is a filmmaker, writer and musician based in Wellington since 2010. Born in America, he grew up in Whanganui and divided his teenage years between New Zealand and Vermont. Studying Film at Victoria University of Wellington, he has worked on over a dozen shorts since 2010 and directed an experimental documentary, “Lines”, in 2011. He is also an accomplished jazz vocalist who took part in Allstate choirs in the USA and has numerous performance credits to his name around the Wellington region. “I Let a Song Go Out of My Heart” is his first narrative directorial work and is based on an autobiographical story.

I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart
