GREAT NEWS!! We asked caring Kiwis to help - our target was $7000 all or nothing and people heard us - we have reached over $7,800 - how about that! SUCCESS - Thank You xx But what if we carry on the momentum and raise an extra $1000 or so with the few days we have left to go? We could make 'Growing Schools' even more powerful
1. For a start we can capture extra footage to make our documentary even more potent - more stories like Oturu School near Kaitaia, where students not only keep extensive gardens but also press their own olive oil and make manuka honey from the school's beehives, building technical and business skills along with respect for nature and healthy eating habits.
2. We can increase the quality of the post production work - things like using sophisticated animated graphics and and original handcrafted music to increase both the educational value and the aesthetic enjoyment.
3. And with some extra funds we can give free copies to schools and community groups in struggling neighbourhoods making sure that everyone can get the benefit of this information and the stories it tells.
Every pledge, no matter how big or small, will collectively help THANK YOU for your considertaion. Please share this appeal with other caring people who might like our project.
This film shows kiwi kids, teachers, parents and whole communities across the nation are making a difference.
This film will make the world a better place!
Growing Schools is a documentary exploring the amazing benefits of gardening and nature immersion, not only for children's health and wellbeing but also for overall achievement and learning outcomes.
It aims to expand the school garden culture in New Zealand and support children to establish a lifelong connection with their food.
In our beautiful country 25% of kids live in households that can't afford enough basic food each week.
Many children struggle with hopelessness and disconnection while being bombarded with 'virtual worlds' and eating food that is creating longterm health problems.
This documentary features teachers, garden facilitators and many exciting initiatives to grow, process and preserve kai.
It is a valuable resource for educational institutions who are interested in learning about the benefits of natural learnscapes, how to link "the garden as a teacher" with curriculum requirements and about the various options of how to transform school grounds into enriching learning environments.
We need your support to complete this production and get this vital information out to the nation, especially all our school communities – now!
Growing Schools is the first of five documentaries produced by the Localising Food Project - a multimedia educational and motivational program encouraging all aspects of local food production, processing and distribution in New Zealand.
Our project facilitates the A-Z of a dynamic local food movement. In doing so we address some of the most compelling social and environmental issues we face as a nation: diet-related illness, family poverty, food insecurity and environmental impacts of a globalised food system.
As you can see in our Growing Schools trailer, we can offer our kids a more life-affirming reality – one which they can co-create hands-on!
Your support will help us cover the costs of getting this documentary completed and into circulation, to help more schools across Aotearoa get their gardens growing.
All work done to date has been achieved by the generosity of private donations and many thousands of voluntary hours of our dedicated team - including a six-month tour of NZ featuring interactive workshops teaching hands-on skills and developing local food resilience action plans, exchanging heirloom seeds, setting up school seedbanks, forming local food networks and filming 230 flourishing local food projects.
We invite you to join us now with your support to spread valuable experiential knowledge through educational DVD's, the interactive multimedia website, social media, media campaigns, television, radio, magazines, launch events and newsletters.

We have 22 days to go - thank you to everyone who has supported the project so far. We only require 350 people to gift an average of $20 to reach our target. I am sure we all know someone who would love to support the localising food project and plant the seeds for the next generation of gardeners.
Many Thanks Rich.
