Take Back the Hood in the Dunedin Fringe Festival
Finalist for Best Solo Show, NZ Fringe Festival 2013
“Being a fairy-tale heroine is lonely, because no one gets your shit.” Red
ATTENTION CITIZENS OF THE WORLD!
My name is Red and yes, I am the real Little Red Riding Hood. You may think you know me but you don’t. Once upon a time my story was taken, coated in sugar and fed to the masses. Now I need your help to get the truth to our Dunedin brothers and sisters.
“Take back the Hood” is an exclusive, no holds barred, confessional look into what really happened that fateful day and my life since- told by me- through use of the performative arts.
The funds will help me transport my gear including props, keyboard, guitar, set and...me down to Dunedin.
So, Join the REDolution! Support the liberation of our identities! Take back our stories!
Take Back the Hood!
VIVA LA REDOLUTION!
Take Back the Hood is at Fortune Theatre, Dunedin 9pm, 20-22 March.
Take Back the Hood is an acerbic, dry, faux-confessional stand-up in which Red (yes, that’s right, the REAL Little Red Riding Hood) explores, takes back and liberates her “story”. In a world of victim blaming, ACC’s mental injury proving, slutwalks and Twilight, how has Red been able to cope? Well, she’s made a show, that’s how. Armed with a keyboard, a microphone and metaphor Red stirs thought, pokes fun and even hits you in the feels at points.
Finalist for Best Solo Show, NZ Fringe Festival 2013
Created and performed by Deborah Eve Rea and produced by Julia Campbell as part of the Dunedin Fringe Festival.
Take Back the Hood was first developed as part of the Toi Whakaari Go Solo Season.
