Just a note: We have a LOT of rewards, so to make it easier a full list with photos and info is available on our blog here!
Two girls, three dogs, a giant table, rolls of fabric, buckets of ink, reams of paper, scores of ideas and a dream of becoming the foremost hand-printed textile studio in New Zealand. It’s a big dream, but hey, go big or go home!
We have a stellar choice of rewards to tempt you and a promise to deliver before Christmas within NZ. We think our stuff speaks for itself but here is a bit more info about us and the big picture.
Rust & Stardust is a new collaborative venture between fashion designer Amy Clarke and graphic designer Evie Kemp. Rust and Stardust is not only the name of our studio, but also of our brand of contemporary but unique, innovative designer homewares, with pieces combining geometric pattern, hand-drawn images, unexpected colour, and lasting quality.
As indie designers, maintaining authenticity and producing high-quality work with constant, tough production restrictions - location, volume, budget and even ethics - is an ongoing struggle. Outsourcing, especially overseas, requires too many compromises. We don't want to compromise anymore; we want to do everything, and do it in an awesome way.
Our mission at Rust & Stardust is ambitious but simple: we want to champion skilled craftsmanship, use fresh materials, create great designs and high end products, and have a hand in every step of the process. We are all about staying fiercely independent, self-sufficient, and being DIY in the most sophisticated sense of the term.
With a local focus, Rust & Stardust will do everything based out of our studio space, including designing, printing, cutting, sewing, packaging, and photography, with a view to including workshops, studio days and exhibitions.
We want to create, make and collaborate… and this is where you come in!
In order to make large-scale products, we need a large-scale setup. We’ve already signed a lease, moved into the studio, and started purchasing equipment. But we need more, hence our pledge me campaign and its ambitious goal of $5,000. Be assured that this money will be spent absolutely responsibly, on either things we can’t make ourselves, or the materials for things we can.
Your pledges will go towards….
Large, custom-made screens, for printing repeat patterns onto rolls of fabric.
A roof-mounted pulley-rigging system, to hold and move the screens.
An industrial sewing machine
Darkroom equipment for producing and exposing screens
A large wash-out station, for environmentally-responsible screen cleaning
Bulk purchasing of fabric and water-based inks
Furniture and equipment for a functional classroom area
It’s a long list, but we hope we can tick everything off with your help. Whatever amount you choose to pledge, be it modest or extravagant, is a tremendous help to us and greatly appreciated. To say thanks, we have a huge range of pledge rewards. This is your first chance to own pieces from Rust & Stardust’s debut collection, ‘Nothing Ventured’! We have everything from postcards to prints, calendars to cushions, and even pup tents (v. important)! The full list is to your right, with more information and pictures on our blog: http://blog.rustandstardust.co.nz
Thank you SO much for checking us out, having a read and maybe even sharing us with your friends. If by now you’ve decided you’d like to pledge - wow, you’re awesome! Lets be friends! Be sure to check out our blog for full information on all our products, and come chat to us on twitter and Facebook (or send us cute cat pictures! They're always good)! On twitter we are @ruststardustnz and individually @eviekemp and @mylarke.
Just a note on shipping: Most pledge rewards include postage within New Zealand & Australia see individual descriptions for specifics. While we will bust a gut (ew) to try and get your rewards to you before Christmas, please be aware that there is a chance parcels going outside of NZ may not arrive by then. We’re willing and able to post most rewards anywhere else in the world, but there will be postal charges for those places further afield (sorry about that!); flick us an email and we’ll let you know what those will be!

Half way!

Hello!
We’ve had an amazing week since our launch, passing the half way mark to our goal half way through our campaign. We’ve been absolutely floored by the pledges, blog features and messages of support we have received. If we meet our goal we already have a couple of really exciting workshops and collaborations waiting to happen. We’re currently working round the clock printing and sewing to make sure everything is ready to be out in time for Christmas.
However our deadline is looming (Monday 9th December) and we still have a way to go. You’ve already helped us a great deal but we’re hoping you can be extra awesome and help us spread the word, make Rust & Stardust a reality and hook people up with some pretty exclusive gifts in the process.
It would be amazing if you would share Rust & Stardust with your friends and family, social media contacts, teach someone how crowd-funding works and why it’s super cool.
You can read more about what we’re trying to do in this interview with Design Assembly http://www.designassembly.org.nz/articles/studio-profile-rust-stardust or talk to us on twitter or Facebook!
Thank you so, so much for your all of your help and support so far and sharing this adventure with us. As we say, Nothing Ventured…!
