About

Motueka Community Gardens

Project 2013-10-07 22:38:27 +1300

We want to build a tunnel house to extend our growing season. The Motueka Community Gardens were set up in 2010, and each year has involved significant growth. Of allotments, of plants, of people. We are building a glasshouse for further growth, but need some $ to complete the project. Our history can be found here.

We were fortunate enough to be donated the structure of the glasshouse, but to pay for untreated macrocarpa for the raised beds, drainage, covering, tap fittings, nails, and so on, we need your help!

We currently have raised beds that look like this:

But it's not ideal. The tiles have sharp edges, and keep pushing out, needing restaking. We want to have our raised beds more like this:

We are using untreated macrocarpa, which will mean less maintenance for us, and no chemicals in the gardens.

You can see the structure of the glasshouse above. We need to buy a cover, to keep the plants warm.

Having the money to finish off the glasshouse would mean prolonging the growing season by early sowings and later croppings. And hotter chillies!

Right, we are off to a great start everyone! Now we need to pull together and put in a final push to make it over the line and meet our pledge target. Please share this message with your networks of people and supporters of the Motueka Community Garden to help further get the word out. We are looking forward to celebrating at Sunflower Day coming up on November 10th at the gardens between 1pm-3pm. We want to plant hundreds of sunflowers and help brighten up Motueka. Check out our pledgeme page https://www.pledgeme.co.nz/1525 and get involved, spread the word :-) Cheers, Tara
