About

After Miss Julie

Project 2013-06-27 01:04:24 +1200

One Lonely Goat is a new production team set up to bring the New Zealand premier of After Miss Julie to life. From the author of Closer, Patrick Marber’s adaptation of the classic Miss Julie by August Strindberg, relocates the play to 1945, on the night of the British Labour Party's famous "landslide" election victory. After Miss Julie is a psychological thriller of three deeply flawed characters entangled in a web of conflicts shifting the upper hand from one to the other, in a high-voltage battle of the sex and class. These characters are as fascinating today as they were when Strindberg first created them.

Well who are ya?

We are an exciting team, consisting of veteran actor and director Cameron Rhodes leading the way. Erroll Shand (Harry, Underbelly) takes to the stage as John, the swaggering chauffeur of a country estate. Shand is joined by Jodie Hillock (Tribes, Educating Rita) as Miss Julie, the ruthless, self-destructive daughter of the house who decides she will command John’s attentions. Dena Kennedy (The Pride, Yours Truly) perfectly completes the line-up as John’s prudent, not-quite-fiancée, Christine. Set in the Basement Theatre Studio space, this play promises to be intimate and engaging.

Why are you here?

We are very thankful to have received some funding from the Arts Alive Scheme at the Auckland Council. This allows us to pay the professional actors and director a wage over the 4 week rehearsal, albeit a very small one. It also helps us with some printing needs so that we can get the project out there! But we need your help!

We have been given a loan to secure the rights to perform the play and need to pay it back. Without this, the play wouldn't be possible, so we are hoping to pay the generous loan of $1000 back as soon as possible.

We need to pay for a rehearsal space, and would love to be able to pay our young, up-and-coming Stage Manager, Steph Van Geete and Assistant Producer, Kristin Burns. Kristin has just graduated from the Pulse New Producers Programme which she was nominated to be on as part if her professional development for Q Theatre. It is important to us to support these roles as much as we can as the industry really needs these wonderful 'behind the scenes' stars.

Our set at the moment consists of the Basement Theatre floor, so we need a little help to create the world of the play, where we can cook kidneys and dabble with a bird....

Please help us bring this classic text to Auckland.

A huge thank you
