'The Handkerchief' will be a beautiful, emotional and sensual short film for the big screen but it won't get made without your help.
Main character, blind man Alistair, relies on memory and imagination to communicate the beautiful world inside his head, which he must in turn convey to June in order to charm and seduce her.
Writer and director, Linda Niccol (Second-Hand Wedding, Dangerous Ride, The Temperature of Water, The Geometry of Desire), hopes this film will captivate and entertain audiences and shed some insight into the possibilities of seeing things from a blind person’s perspective, as well as create empathy with the worlds such people must create for themselves in order to overcome what some may perceive as a terrible disability, especially when it comes to finding love.
The script for this short film won the Kaos Films British Short Screenplay Competition in 2006. Alan Parker and Kenneth Branagh were amongst the judges. 2,000 writers from around the world entered.
While the crew will be small, camera work will be crucial to realising the magic of this film as will the creation of the many visual effects, which will be overseen by Trevor Brymer at Weta Productions.
And already, experienced, talented and generous key crew have volunteered their services at low rates, these include; producer — Glenis Giles, DoP — David Paul, sound designer and composer — Jeremy Cullen, editor — Jeff Hurrell, set designer — John Girdlestone and design and advertising agency — Mission Hall Creative.
By
donating to the production of this film you will not only help support an up
and coming filmmaker tell a magical, very entertaining story about a
marginalised group of people in our society, you will give two actors
challenging, unique roles. The completed film will be screened to raise
money for the blind and will also be entered in international festivals and
film competitions. And who knows, an award winning screenplay just might
translate into an award winning short film!
Whatever you can spare will be welcomed!
The estimated budget is $50,000

Hi everyone - please excuse the crowd mail but this is your last opportunity to help crowd fund 'The Handkerchief'!
The rewards are there and many generous people have come forward already if you take a look at the list of pledgers.
There is only one week left to make it happen. I realise times are tough but I am hoping you can help. And I wouldn't ask if I didn't think you cared.
We need lots of people onboard to make it happen.
It's as simple as clicking onto the site https://www.pledgeme.co.nz/Crowd/Details/117 opening
an account, making a secure pledge via your credit card - the amount you pledge is not made public
- and choosing your reward.
If the total target is not reached by May 4, 2012 your credit card will not be billed and the film won't get made.
Thanks for your generous support.
