About The End of Poverty

Project 2013-06-03 02:54:42 +1200

**************************Let's Keep Going***********************************

Happy Friday pledgers!

Thank you all so much for pledging as far as you have, the plans are moving along swiftly and this is sure to be a night we won't forget.

I am extremely pleased to announce two of the guest speakers we have secured: Colin Kennedy and Gradon Diprose from Victoria University of Wellington. Colin and Gradon are both extremely passionate about development and looking forward to gathering some awesome ideas to combat poverty, both local and global.

We are now planning on bringing Ben Abraham, P3 Foundation's Otago Regional Director up for the event. He will bring another awesome perspective to the discussion and stir up even more passion from audience members.

We ask you to please keep pledging - this is the first of many collaborations between P3 Foundation and One Man Revolt and we hope this relationship will continue for years to come!

Nga mihi,

Alex (P3 Foundation Wellington Regional Director)

*******************************************************************************************

We are co-hosting, along with P3 Foundation, a screening of The End of Poverty in Wellington. We are wanting to create a free event, where everyone including university students, academics, social entrepreneurs and politicians can come together to share ideas to start a real journey to the end of poverty.

The event is planned for August 28th, and it will be hosted by one of New Zealands foremost academics in Developmental and Economic Geography, Warrick Murray. We have a wish list of top politicians, from all parties, that we are waiting to invite....as well as an awesome line-up of social entrepreneurs to talk about some solutions to poverty in NZ. The discussion will be launched from a public policy perspective, as well as exploring how New Zealanders can become directly involved in the fight to end poverty.

The aim of the evening is to generate positive and solution based discussion on how we can solve the poverty issue in New Zealand. This is a cause that both One Man Revolt and P3 Foundation are passionate about. So, who are One Man Revolt and P3 Foundation?

One Man Revolt
We are campaigners for Participatory Democracy. One Man Revolt started with the idea that in order to achieve social and political change we each need to become more educated and involved with the major issues impacting our daily lives. Once informed, we need a vehicle for discussing these issues with others. This is the first of many high profile events that we want to create that tackle big issues. We also sell some pretty cool tees!

P3 Foundation
P3 Foundation is a youth-led, New Zealand based development organisation that inspires and empowers young people to eradicate extreme poverty in the Asia Pacific. P3 Foundation is made up of over 130 young, passionate and committed volunteers who are driven by a collective desire to see the end of poverty within this generation. Since it's inception in 2009, P3 Foundation has grown and now runs several projects and campaigns a year, such as The SEED programme, Live Below the Line, Social Enterprise Competition, Pay Fair Trade Forward, and World Changers Conference.

Both P3 Foundation and One Man Revolt are very excited to bring this event to you and ask you for your help to make this happen. We believe that it is important to involve the citizens of New Zealand in solving our part of this global issue....this is the first step!

    A Song...with you and a issue!

09:25AM Mon 29/07/13 on The End of Poverty

You may or may not have heard of the brilliant Warwick Murray.....and his blukelele, but you have now.

Warwick has generously accepted, not only an invitation to MC the event, but also to compose a song about a social issue with your name in it. This will be performed live at the event, and also captured on film to be shared amongst the millions on the net.

    Amazing!

Some very cool people are going to....

06:39AM Fri 26/07/13 on The End of Poverty

encourage us, enlighten us and wow us!

Jimmy @ GenZero (http://generationzero.org.nz/) is coming to engage us in conversation around climate change and poverty.

It is important not only to explore all the different influences that have been contributing to the poverty situation, but also look to these as opportunities to create wealth for all.

We also have Patrick, who is involved in 2 amazing poverty solution-based organisations - Spinning Top (http://spinningtop.org/) and 1% Collective (http://onepercentcollective.org/). Patrick is going to engage us in dialogue around the idea of looking for ways to personally create wealth or resources for others...we all have a responsibility to engage in the solutions.

I find these guys to be incredibly inspiring...you will too.

Join us in helping make this happen, then come along and help make a difference!

    A wee taste

06:52PM Mon 22/07/13 on The End of Poverty

The End of Poverty....a prize worth fighting for!

I thought it made sense to let you good folks know a little more about what we are planning for this event.
The aim of this event is to really start a journey in New Zealand towards the end of poverty. We want this to mean the end of poverty here in New Zealand, but we also recognise our responsibilities in such an interconnected world, so we will be encouraging people to seek ways to alleviate poverty around the world.

We will throw open the doors at 6pm and this is where the awesome people @ All Good Organics will treat you to tastings of their most excellent beverages. If you haven't tried Karma Cola yet, then you are in for a treat!
You will also be able to purchase these beverages and we are currently sourcing some other socially conscious snacks for you to enjoy.
We will kick off the more serious part of the evening around 6:15pm, when we have Warwick Murray introduce the evening and create a bit of context around why this event is happening and why it is necessary to start and commit to this conversation.
6:30pm will see the film beginning and it rolls for about 100mins.
At the conclusion of the screening the most exciting part of the evening will kick off.
We have started inviting and confirming the presence of an amazing cast of people to aid a discussion about what we have experienced in the film and how we can apply this to create practical solutions to poverty.
We want to tackle this on 2 fronts : Legislative and Citizen led reform.
There will be a cast of politicians in attendance, representing all major parties, with a view to commenting on positive legislative reform that can be introduced to alleviate both short and long term symptoms of poverty.
In addition to the politicians, we are also inviting a range of academics, social entrepreneurs and economists. These esteemed guests will present their view of poverty and the possible solutions from their own relative fields of experience and expertise.
After the discussion, there will be time for people to mix and mingle, ask questions, grab some info etc....just to help you leave with a smile on your face and purpose in your step.
We are really planning for this event to be incredibly well rounded and as apolitical as we can possibly make an event that is, at its heart, very political. We want people to leave this event inspired to seek avenues for getting involved in being part of the solutions.

    Hey Everyone,

I have decided to get more personal and I am putting my baking rep on the line!

For those you you out there who appreciate the yummyness of home-baked delights, I am willing to spend hours, if not days, in the kitchen to reward you for your support.

Jump on it, 20 dozen cookies is about my limit.....but can be persuaded to make more if needed.
