What is "The Diversity"?

A place where  “Sharing our Love for Food and Culture” is endless.

It all started back in 1992 when New Zealand let us call it our home which my mum calls “Heaven on Earth” after fleeing the Cambodian genocide.

The Diversity, formerly known as "Khmer Angkor", is a cozy Christchurch spot. We're all about fresh ingredients, honest cooking, and a warm atmosphere. Embracing diversity, we not only empower migrants but also offer equal opportunities to locals. Some of our team members have achieved remarkable career growth in the industry, a source of pride for us.

Our commitment involves offering meaningful work and training within New Zealand's food industry, spanning the realms of spice and sauce crafting to the preparation of authentic, healthy Cambodian dishes. Beyond professional growth, we strive to create a home away from home, ensuring that our employees feel embraced and connected.

What Changed?

When we launched our Cambodian restaurant, we encountered a scarcity of spices essential for crafting our dishes. Faced with the challenge of obtaining authentic sauces and spices, we took matters into our own hands and started creating our own.

As our customer base grew, we also grew. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to close for weeks, we felt the absence of our loyal patrons, and they missed us too. Some of our regulars requested that we deliver our spice packs and sauces so they could replicate our dishes at home. We initially provided pamphlets with cooking instructions as a temporary solution, but to our surprise, the demand continued even after we reopened, with word-of-mouth playing a significant role. When more customers started to take our restaurant's flavors home, our journey took an exciting turn.

Balancing the operation of our restaurant with the production of sauces and spice packs became a formidable challenge for our small family-run business. To meet the rising demand, we expanded our team by hiring and training staff exclusively for sauce and spice pack production. While this expansion incurred additional costs, we've strived to sustain it.

At a certain point, one of our customer introduced us to the idea of project funding, and we decided to give it a shot.

Bringing our products to the homes of Aotearoa's residents is no small feat, which is why we're calling on you to join us and make it happen.

We require funding for several essential aspects of our expansion, including acquiring new packaging machinery, adding an additional production staff member, securing a potential workspace, covering legal and accounting expenses, refurbishing older equipment, boosting working capital, investing in marketing efforts, and supporting research and development for new sauces and spice packs.

It's not just about preparing healthy meals anymore – we're venturing into crafting sauces and spice packs to empower people to create nutritious, delicious dishes at home.We have sold close to 1500 units and now it was time for us to look at some options to raise fund to collaborate with handpicked stores and stockists who share our vision.

The Diversity Restaurant stands out in New Zealand as one of the few places where you can savor truly authentic and ethnic Cambodian cuisine. Beyond our restaurant, we hold the distinction of being the sole producer of our unique sauces and spice packs.

Our dream is to harmoniously continue crafting sauces and spice packs while nurturing our beloved family restaurant. We envision hosting, engaging cooking workshops for both young adults, and adults, provided that we can secure the necessary resources. In our expansion journey, we're dedicated to supporting local suppliers for eco-friendly glass bottles, sustainable lids, packaging for our spice packs, eco-conscious boxes. Our commitment to the environment is as fervent as our passion for creating delicious dishes.
