About us
We, Elgee Leung and Josie Yau, are a couple originally from Hong Kong, who moved to Marlborough a few years ago to start a new life due to the political changes back home. Fidelio Café and Wine Bar is our unique concept to start a business by combining the strengths of us. Elgee has been working in multiple roles in the wine industry and now managing one of the most successful cellar doors in NZ for three years. He sees the opportunity to run a wine bar in Marlborough, the largest wine region in NZ. Josie has been running a home baker business under the name Macaronage producing top-quality French macarons and looking at expanding into a café, featuring French pastries.
Before moving to NZ, we were both professional classical musicians. We continued to perform in NZ and are actively involved in the local musical scenes, developing a strong network in the community. The name Fidelio comes from the one and only opera of the same name by Beethoven. The German libretto tells how Leonore, disguised as a prison guard named "Fidelio", rescues her husband Florestan from death in a political prison.
What we will do
We will build a comprehensive and educational wine list of 150+ New Zealand and international wines, with a sizable by-the-glass menu altering monthly, and organise wine tasting events regularly in various formats, from winemakers presenting their wines to blind tasting wine options. The food menu will feature tapas-style food, including freshly silced Iberico ham and a luxurious selection of cheese. Josie will continue to produce perfect macarons together with other French pastries for the café. Last but not least, you will find quality live music at Fidelio most weekends. We plan to open in early November and will operate 7 days a week.

Dear all,
We are now waiting for the final approval for the alcohol licence before we can announce our grand opening date. We will be in touch next week regarding your rewards. This project could not have gone this far without your support. We would like to sincerely thank you for helping our dream come true. We look forward to seeing you at Fidelio soon. For oversea pledgers, we will regularly send you photos/videos of the grand opening and special events, but please do plan your trip to visit us soon.
