Help Groconut Bring Production Closer To Home

The coconut trade creates over 60-million tonnes of bio waste each year, so we're launching a campaign to turn this waste into valuable resources which help gardeners grow better (just in time for Spring)!

Our business is called Groconut, and we're all about growing great plants ethically and sustainably with coconut by-products. The demand for coconut oil and desiccated coconut means that many coconut manufacturers discard up to 50% of the cocount as waste. So we're here to spread the message: from the husk, to the shell, to the meat, and even the water; the whole coconut can be used for plant growth.

After nearly a decade in the horticulture trade, we created our very first patent-pending product: Groconut Horticultural Coconut Water. We now we see the potential to make even bigger ethical and sustainable changes in the horticulture industry through more coconut byproducts.

We are crowdfunding to bring production closer to home and support those below the poverty line by turning waste products into income streams. Not only will this alleviate poverty, it will also cut transport for coconut products by 70% (coconut products are usually imported from India/Sri Lanka).

So far, we've helped our Pacific Island pilot plant get some of the machinery required, but to run even more efficiently and sustainably we're needing your help. Communities will benefit from fair employment opportunities and the income streams will help overcome poverty in these third-world communities.

Groconut: How did it start?

Josh and I have been in the horticulture trade for over a decade. I wanted to use coconut water for our clients and our own gardens, but didn't have any we could use because it had all been heat-treated (which destroys the growth-boosting properties). 

That's when we decided to introduce a coconut water that would work for plant growth. And it was a success! Our product is now stocked in over 40 garden centres NZ-wide with incredible reviews.

After we discovered that coconut water can replace artificial plant growth hormones by increasing yield and helping young plants grow bigger, faster, and more resistant to stress, we made it our job to make a product that gardeners could use. We were the first company to introduce such a product to market. Our product has a patent pending and we do regular analytical testing at local NZ labs (like Eurofins and Asure Quality) to make sure we continue to deliver the purest, highest-potency formula available in the world.

Future plans

Following the completion of our first campaign, our plan is to initiate Phase Two and set up an equity campaign to continue facilitating growth in for our Pacific Island communities by equipping our supplier in the Pacific Islands with more tools that can manufacture coconut waste.
