THE PROJECT:

Cabaret dinner shows have increased in popularity over the past 5-6 years as people not only want a meal but also fantastic entertainment to accompany it.

Sunday drag brunches have also become popular with the 8 we have produced in the past 12 months all selling out.

I have been hiring out venues and catering for my cabaret shows for nearly 10 years with great success and 95% sellouts. The profits could be very well increased by keeping the food and drink expenses in-house and being able to save on venue and technical heritage that would be spent with another business. Having to contend with other potential bookers for a venue and space, working with corporate themes environments and having to use preferred suppliers for those spaces very limits me. Not to mention having to use the venue’s staff whom I do not know and are not necessarily matching the atmosphere of the event my business is producing.

This can work against me in regard to finances and risk my business’ reputation. The money saved in having my own venue and premises allows me to be able to lease an ideal venue and be able to generate more income by keeping the food and beverage expenditure of patrons in-house. I am able to hire the ideal staff f that fit the business reputation and elevates the “experience” I am wanting to create. All technical would be permanent in-house with the ideal lighting and technology installed for both ease of use and creating the ambience for the themes produced. Private hires would be available as there is a serious lack of small-medium sized venues for theatre and entertainment in the region.

The venue would operate predominantly Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings with the option to increase opening hours.

 

WHO AM I?

I'm a dreamer but most importantly a doer.

I create events, opportunities and education.

A strong rainbow ally, advocate and activist. 

AFAB Drag Queen, events and tour manager, festival director, show producer. 25 years is hospitality including having owned and managed my own cafe, resturant, nightclub, bar and running many other establishments. 20 years in entertainment and show producing. 10 years with my own business, Flash Mob Entertainment which includes, show producing, directing, marketing, tour management, venue management, private bartending and mixology, theatre technical and talent agent/booking.

I am now looking to do more at home rather than constantly touring and be able to focus on my community more, this project will allow for this but to also continue my trajectory and passion for the queer arts space. 

I also am festival director for the only Pride festival in Taranaki called OUTfest Taranaki and again, I am having to hire other venues for the events I run, it would be great to be able to utilise the multi-use venue I am wanting to run with this project.

WHERE IS YOUR MONEY GOING?

I have found the perfect premises in the middle of town, in a desirable area that will mean ths project will be an amazing addition. Its available now and the space is so perfect I only need to rebrand and get the theatre equipment in there, train the staff and be ready to open the doors in time for corporate Christmas functions and peak Summer trading period.

I see potential for booking up next year's Winter months with upcoming festivals looking for spaces for acts and touring shows to come to the region as well as our local operatic show happening where we can compliment their theming and showtimes with ours.

Acheiving this target will mean we can secure the contract, start the rebranding and theatre tech install, get going with marketing and bring in the stock ready to launch and trade in OctoberNovember.
