Welcome to the Anxiety Club Fire Sale!
We are all but ready to release our new set of songs - "The Francine EP" - and we need to make some cash to finish it off.
We have always reinvested our performance fees and any profits from merchandise sales (and all that Spotify revenue!) back into the band. This has enabled us to record new music every year and fund a couple of tours.
The good news: we have made a start on 2019’s “The Francine EP”
The bad news: the band account has been cleaned-out – partly due to lead-singer Kev’s Candy Crush addiction
More good news: there is Merch stock in the store (and exclusive experiences on offer) - the proceeds of which will be ploughed back into finishing and releasing this new set of songs in the near future.
To your right → (if you’re on a computer) or below ↓ (if you’re on your phone) you can see what’s on offer.
Rewards include Anxiety Club T-shirts and the Black Heart EP on CD
About the EP
Never ones to stay still for long, Anxiety Club has started work on a three-song EP at Lee Prebble’s famed Surgery Studios in Wellington. You may have heard some of these songs at a recent gig. Recording began in June, with James Goldsmith again behind the desk (he also engineered the band’s 2018 release “Black Heart”).
The team has set themselves a pretty aggressive goal of releasing the songs by Spring. To do this, they need to raise funds to complete mixing, mastering, artwork, distribution and marketing. They’ve set a crowd-funding target of $1,500 which will cover a good part of the shortfall. Any additional funds raised will go towards increasing the promotion budget – because they want people to hear these songs. Title track, "I'm so Francine" is a bona fide banger.
As always, if the PledgeMe fund-raising target is not reached by the closing date, all money pledged will be refunded.
About Anxiety Club
After introducing themselves in 2016 with a live EP, Anxiety Club haven’t stopped evolving and performing since. Fans have been won - and hearts have been broken - across tours, festival appearances (including Gardens Magic, Festival of Lights, Coastella, Performance Arcade, Beers at the Basin) and frequent releases of new music.
In 2017 they released two singles (“Be still” and “I don’t want anyone (but you)"). Their excellent 5-song EP Black Heart – recorded by James Goldsmith (Mermaidens, Beastwars, Nadia Reid) at Blue Barn Studios and released in 2018 - found favour with music fans here and abroad. Notorious critic Simon Sweetman only had great things to say about the EP in his review, concluding that he “really liked these songs”.
In January 2019 they released live-favourite Ginger in the Summer as a single. A high-energy, oddball kiwi summer anthem that proved that the band could be just as much fun as they were a “serious band”. In muzic.net.nz’s 5-star review of “Ginger” they said “it’s lyrically sharper than a butcher’s favourite knife, and musically gets into your psyche like sand in your togs…”.
“The Francine EP” is slated for release in September 2019. Recorded at Lee Prebble’s famed Surgery Studios (The Phoenix Foundation, Trinity Roots, The Black Seeds) - again with James Goldsmith at the console – it is shaping up to be the band’s most exciting offering yet.

Recording finished - on to the mix!

And that's a wrap!
We finished tracking last night at The Surgery with the last of the vocals going down. The songs are sounding, in our humble and unbiased opinion, quite epic. Now it's on to the mix!
Here's a staunch, heavily-filtered selfie of Kev comping vocals in the studio, while in the background James pushes Autotune to its very limits.

It was a productive weekend at The Surgery in the middle of June. Pretty much got all parts recorded and the rough mixes are sounding good already. Kev had come down with a cold, so a vocal session has been scheduled for early July....
