Help us make Jenny's dream fly.
Te Kōtare is the dream of Jenny Shearer, who passed away before it was completed. She was an early childhood teacher, who had a passion for teaching her tamariki Te Reo Māori She composed 10 songs in Te Reo Māori, in the hope that they would become a tool for teachers to teach Maori concepts and language. After Jenny died, her family and friends have been working hard to make this dream come true. We are excited to now have professionally recorded songs and wonderfully designed teaching resources, including online animated videos. And now, we want to really set them free, and produce and distribute 500 of these for Early Childhood Education centres and primary schools throughout the Wellington region and beyond.
The project so far has only occurred thanks to the generous support of Matiu Te Huki (cultural liasion, music support), Lee Prebble, (studio recording) Jenny's whanau - Ann and Larry Purchas, Grant, Jenny's husband, and their boys, Malachi, Jamaya and Neo. And an awesome team of design students from Massey University; Alesha Garton, Kelsey Gee, Libby White, Olivia Mellor-Killalea, Ellie Jackson, Frank Lewis, Georgia McNeil, Katie McKenzie, Alya Corner, Dion Fowler, Brittany Rusbatch, Karlos Tui, Christie Penn, Joe Aziz
