"Living abroad, he said, there's only one way to do it / evict memory / don't take mementos / even the ones small enough to pack / have weight."
'The Immigrants', Laura Williamson
The Blue Moments Project is an hour-long sequence of jazz/blues songs and spoken word that explores ideas of identity, home and of "foreignness", or the strangeness of being foreign.
A collaboration between composer Angela Mote and writer Laura Williamson, Blue Moments started as a project to test how music and words might inter-relate in a way that is more profound than in the traditional 'music and lyrics' sense.
After a successful preview of a shorter version of the show at the River House near Wanaka, which featured Dominic Stayne on bass, Jeff Sinnot on drums, Graeme Perkins on piano and vocalist Karen Hattaway, we have been invited to present a world premiere of the full-length Blue Moments Project at a major autumn arts festival in New Zealand next year ('like' us on Facebook to hear the official annoucment from us first!).
To complement the live set, we're making a CD and a 28-page book of poetry printed in full colour, with artwork.
Funds raised will go towards recording and mastering the album at the lovely Orange Studios in Christchurch, creating physical CDs, and book printing.
By pledging, you will be pre-ordering the album and book, which are set to be released in March of 2017.
