Who we are:
Joanna Galvin holds a BFA from Whitecliffe School of Art and Design. She is an artist, photographer, curator and the Director of In House creative projects. Born in Auckland she has lived in Vienna and mostly recently, London. Jo begun curating upon returning to Auckland from a year in London in 2003 at K’ Rds NU creative space. She then went on to run Kiss and Make up club with established Auckland based promoter Matthew Crawley, where the club denizens became her subjects and the walls her gallery. Her passionate relationship with photography and the camera itself led her to co-curate Project Lomo 1 & Project Lomo 2 with Japanese artist Akinonbu Uchimoto, celebrating the art of snap shot photography, by artist and enthusiast. Following a year long commitment to Cross Street Studios, her and fellow artist London based Leah Forsyth established Liberty Gallery, a pop up curatorial concept project that exhibited artists such as New Zealands own Imogen Taylor and introduced Belgium artist Ward Zwart. Her most recent curation was that of Long White Cloud Gallery and Cafe in London’s east end, Hoxton where she was involved in the initial set up of the gallery space with In House London team who co-curated 5 exhibitions involving 52 international and London based artists. www.joannagalvin.com
Lia Kent Mackillop
A new addition to the In House curatorial team is Lia Kent Mackillop who is also a photographer, sculptor and BFA Hons graduate from the Elam School of Fine Art. Lia was born in London, and has traveled extensively between the United Kingdom, the United States, and Aotearoa / New Zealand. Her nomadic background has contributed to her focus on travel and space in aspects of her work. When she’s not out on shoots or going to shows, Lia can often be found at 95bFM. She is the creator of the ‘Who Arted?’ feature on Charlotte Ryan’s Morning Glory and continues to host the Monday Drive show.
Hannah Sarney
Not only is Auckland born and bred Hannah Sarney the In House Social Media Strategist, she is also a producer for one of New Zealand’s leading news websites. She’s in charge of sorting through and editing down the daily death, destruction and intolerance that amounts to ‘world news’. It also means she spends a lot of time faffing about on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. She’s spent the last six years hosting shows on 95bFM and is currently settled into the Saturday night request show. While she studied politics and sociology, a disposable camera is never far from her hand when she’s out and about.
Curator and In House creative projects collaborator Erin Forsyth is a believer in creative thought and creative application. Director of shared studio space Method and Manners and curatorial projects based company The Busy Nice, both established in 2009, she is also the former arts editor of The New Order Magazine and has worked as a freelance curator and prolific illustrator for over a decade. Erins clients include Insight and Workshop Clothing, Children of Vision and Public Gallery. She has exhibited extensively throughout New Zealand and Australia and her candidly dark illustrations and paintings have featured in local and international publications such as Lurve, Pulp, Yen and Black magazines.
