Motorhome Powered By Vege Oil
Project 2015-07-19 15:06:07 +1200
What is it?
It's a mini bus converted to a motorhome that runs off of used fryer oil. So as we travel
the smell of fish and chips will be left in our wake. I'm hungry already.
Fun fact - The first diesel engine was designed to burn peanut oil.
Why build it?
To bring people together to share in a adventure mobile
Help cut emissions - Vege oil is carbon neutral
Not paying for petrol = more vacation time!
And, most importantly, I would like to accomplish something meaningful.
This project will promote alternatives to crude and hopefully other people
will convert their vehicles also. The less petrol we consume the more
preassure is put on oil companies to invest in alternatives.
What do you get if you pledge?
Use of the bus! Take it where you wish and enjoy the New Zealand outdoors.
If you would like to use the bus for longer or pick up in a different location then the rewards offered please contact me and I'll set up a reward to suit. Rates are based on $250/day plus expenses for drop off.
Availability begins Dec 11, 2015.
It will look nothing like the photo above unfortunately :) Will use a Toyota Coaster or similar. Funds raised will be used to purchase the bus. Convert fuel system to used oil. Do any repairs needed. Cover the first rounds of RUCs, COF. Build bunks. Make seating convertable to sleeping space. Suss a simple kitchen. Wire lights and power points. If enough funds are raised then a solar system to run the electronics would be fantastic. The bus will transport and sleep 4 people plus the driver. It will weigh less than 6000 kg, which means anyone with a class 1 licence can drive it.
I guess I'm meant to tell you a bit about myself aren't I *sigh*
I grew up in a wee mountain town in British Columbia, Canada *colonial high five*.
After school I got a job fighting wildfires for a season and then became a train driver which I did for about 8 years.
In Revelstoke there has been influx of young people drawn by a massive new ski resort and the mountain playground continues to become more accessable. I began hosting travellers whom I met through couchsurfing.org and went on travels of my own to Europe and Central/South America. Through these experiences I bacame interested in the world instead of just myself :) The more I've seen and learned the more I want to do my bit to help things along in a positive direction.
Through couchsurfing.org I met a kiwi lass who I followed over to NZ and have been living here for 3 years. I have since taken up carpentry and been lucky enough to be taken on some great NZ adventures. I still have the travel bug and hope to use the bus to further explore this beautiful country.
Sustainable transport! That is the dream. Lets re use what's meant for the landfill and have fun doing it.
Thanks so much for reading about my project, I hope you like the idea as much as I do. And if you decide to pledge it would mean the world to me. Take care
Cheers!
