Hope Is Not Lost is the debut album from “Butterfly Caught” aka Jason Peters. A considered collage of sounds, Hope Is Not Lost sees Butterfly Caught blend an eclectic mix of genres including funk, rock and electronica with elements of ambience, lounge beats and otherworldly sound recordings. Ranging from the album’s first single “Modern Life” with its atmospheric melody, lush guitar sonics and smooth beats to the more summery optimism and up-tempo strut of “Pacific Sunrise”, Butterfly Caught’s eclectic approach has shaped an album, which is both excitingly fresh and unique. Producing and recording the album throughout 2011, Jason Peters – who hails from Christchurch – was moved like many by the devastating effects caused by the earthquakes that hit his home town. Subsequently, the album has a touching dedication.
“This album was created during an incredibly difficult time in Christchurch. The writing process helped me cope with the destruction and aftershocks that ravaged the city I was born and raised in. The numerous quakes produced many sleepless nights and anxiety ridden days for us all.
On February 22 the injuries and loss of life from the quakes were truly shocking, but with the resilience and amazing unity of the Christchurch people, we endured this terrible event that changed our lives forever. This album is dedicated to the victims of the February 2011 earthquake and their family and friends who survive them. Stay strong Christchurch.”
