Athenic Memorial EP

Athenic were a Christchurch local experimental metal band that were active from 2006 to 2010. We had been working on releasing our debut album but moved into obscurity when our drummer, Manu Francois, left New Zealand for his big O.E. We all talked endlessly whilst he travelled Europe and spoke of getting back into the band when he came back. Manu arrived back in the country late night Sunday the 20th February 2011, much to the anticipation of Tinkle, Paul, Ben and Matti we prepared ourselves to reform. However, as we all know things took a tragic turn two days later, and we (Athenic) along with many others, lost our best friend, band mate and brother Matti in the quake. We feel we owe it to Matti and to ourselves to finish the album we had begun together.

Athenic was not only a band but a brotherhood. We were best friends and inseparable. We could no longer continue after Mattis death as he could never be replaced, however we would now love to finish what we all started together. This pledgeme project is solely aimed at getting us to Wellington to record Drum tracks for the album, then getting the album mixed, mastered and printed. We have sufficient recording capabilities in Christchurch to record guitars and vocals for free, but getting a perfect drum sound means making the mission to Wellington. We are recording Drum tracks with Troy Kelly at STL audio in Wellington, and will be recording guitars in our home studios in Christchurch. We are still deciding who will master the recording, but are currently talking with a notable producer. The album will go online for digital download once complete, along with limited copies being printed and most likely reserved for high pledgers, close friends and family of Matti.

Thanks for your time.

Athenic.
