Hi, I'm Gill Winter. "The Yeti in the Library" is my new book, subtitled "Encounters with compassion, death and life in the Tibetan community in exile."
TEACHING TIBETAN REFUGEES IN INDIA
In the past three years I've been teaching English as a volunteer in Dharamshala, north India. It's home to the Dalai Lama and thousands of Tibetans in exile. The Tibetans I met and taught were great people. They impressed me hugely with their compassion, positivity and faith that one day Tibet will be free.
SELF-IMMOLATION, A DESPERATE PROTEST
Life within Tibet at present is very tough, with lack of human rights, no religious freedom, erosion of the Tibetan language in schools, and their beloved leader the Dalai Lama remains in exile. Over the past 3 years more than 100 Tibetans took the desperate step of self-immolation, in an attempt to alert the world to the situation in Tibet.
Did YOU know about this?
Sadly, the Tibetan struggle for freedom has been very poorly reported in the world media.
"THE YETI IN THE LIBRARY' IS MY WAY OF HELPING TO SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THIS TRAGIC SITUATION
It's not all gloom, by the way - living in northern India is a fascinating experience and you'll learn about daily life in Dharamshala, meeting monkeys in the forest, eating pizza while listening to monks chanting, learning Tibetan, attending a long life ceremony for the Dalai Lama, and more...The book has been described as "Easy to read, charmingly humorous, yet with an important message".
ABOUT THE BOOK
- THE PAPERBACK: "The Yeti in the Library" is self-published and I need to sell 100 copies to break even. It's 213 pages, with 16 pages of colour photos, two maps, a glossary, bibliography and a list of useful websites about Tibetan issues. It's available now.
- THE E-BOOK: Kindle owners can pre-order a copy which will be out in April. I'll deliver it to your Kindle as soon as it's available.
- TWO BOOKS! You can opt to buy both "The Yeti in the Library" and my first book about life in Dharamshala, "Between Monks and Monkeys."
- OR GIVE A DONATION Opt for the $10 donation in 'Rewards', and I'll personally pass the money on to TIBET CHARITY, www.tibetcharity.in Tibet Charity is run by Tibetans for Tibetans. Their initiatives include English classes, a vet clinic, blood donors' club, home nurses and support of elderly Tibetans.
Order now! "The Yeti in the Library" is a great read - and you'll learn something new about the Tibetans, their culture and their struggle for freedom.
Thanks for reading this. Tashi delek! (Tibetan greeting meaning "Blessings and good luck".)
