About

THE MONGOL RALLY

Project 2013-03-11 01:07:53 +1300

In July this year Tim Grainger, Tom Lane and Matt Bedford will attempt to coax a wildly impractical and pitifully underpowered car across 3 deserts, 5 mountain ranges and 1/3rd of the earth’s surface in pursuit of adventure and glorious mayhem. Calling themselves the Super Mongol Brothers, the boys will join roughly 250 other teams covering the 16,000kms from London to Ulaanbaatar on the Mongol Rally.

As well as yearning to keep the spirit of adventure alive in their post-millennial-otherwise-working-for-the-man hearts, the boys like that warm fuzzy feeling inside that comes from helping folks. To this end, they have set themselves the ambitious task of raising at least NZ$10,000 for charity. But of course, an adventure this large doesn’t happen all by itself. It requires patience, planning, preparation, persistence… and cash.

The team is working to raise $5,000 to cover the cost of purchasing and equipping a pint sized vehicle for this out-sized task (e.g. spare tyres and rims, minor moidfications like a belly plate, tolls, quite a bit of petrol - the list goes on...).

On arrival in Mongolia, the car itself will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to a Mongolian Children's charity selected by the Rally organisers (The Adventurists).
