We Need Your Help!
THE TRUCK IS STUCK AND NEEDS YOUR HELP TO FIX IT!
The Ugly Shakespeare Company has a proven record in New Zealand schools, providing consistently high quality live theatre performances since 1996.
The company began with only 72 schools on the list and since then our success and the demand for our visits have extended our audience reach to over 120 schools nationwide on an annual basis. This growth is a combination of our ability to actually engage with the teens themselves as well as our determination to continue with what we believe – that is to make professional, live theatre accessible to youth.
The Ugly Shakespeare Company has a unique approach to both Shakespeare and live performance. We are strong believers in getting amongst the students and relating to them on a level that is both contemporary and non-patronising. Our success lies in our ability to utilise teen culture within our shows. This includes using current teen vernacular, references to film, TV or music that is relevant, as well as adapting the show on the road to fit changing trends.
So why are we turning to you?
Recently ye trusty olde Ugly truck blew up while on the road and the 2013 tour is just around the corner! We need to raise the money to recondition the engine which will make the truck almost like new and allow us to continue bringing these experiences for another 18 years!
Because the Ugly Shakespeare Company works hard to keep costs down to our audiences when delivering our brilliant programme throughout our New Zealand schools every year, there simply are not enough funds to fix the truck in the coffers.
The company has completed seventeen NATIONAL TOURS and TWO OUTDOOR SUMMER SHAKESPEARE EVENTS in the last seventeen years.
We can’t let auto repairs stop us...so your help will make a massive difference to thousands of New Zealand kids who really benefit from having Ugly visit their schools.
We take the fear out of Shakespeare and give professional live theatre experiences to thousands of kiwi teenagers who don't get to see live theatre in their home town.
All donations are tax deductible as we are registered as a charity with the Charities Commission (now the D of I A) and 30% of your donation can be claimed back in your tax return.
We can provide you with a donee receipt for this purpose upon request.
Please donate what you can, a little goes a long way and a lot goes even further!
We need to raise at least $10k for this purpose.
