Fourteen Stones is a gorgeous fantasy novel by Kris Faatz, which is being published by the Patchwork Raven. Being a small press, we need to crowdfund our initial print run.
This book is honestly so different to anything we have read before. We can't wait to share it with the world.
Fourteen Stones
Fourteen Stones is a richly layered, character-driven fantasy. The tribal people called the Pala Vaia, “First and Lost Ones,” have lived in Lassar since ancient times and coexisted with the Lasska people, but they have always been wanderers, seemingly out of place wherever they are. Now Lassar’s fanatical new ruler, Impera Shurik, wants to destroy the tribes.
Sixteen-year-old Khari is a Vaia Lamp-Carrier. Her dreams provide guidance for her tribe, if she can interpret the messages they send. Now she must use all her skill, and trust instincts she has only begun to have, in order to save her people from extermination. Her dreams lead her and a small group of Vaia out of their native country and into neighboring Namora, where they must find allies, in particular a Namoran priest with an extraordinary mental gift of his own. The Vaia’s search for a safe homeland will change the lives of all the people it touches, as well as the futures of two nations.
Kris Faatz
Kris Faatz (rhymes with skates) is a pianist, writer, and teacher. Her short fiction has appeared in journals including Los Angeles Review, Typehouse Magazine, and Streetlight Magazine, and most recently received NELLE journal’s 2022 Three Sisters Award. Her first novel, To Love A Stranger (Blue Moon Publishers, 2017), was a finalist for the Schaffner Press Music in Literature Award.
Kris teaches classes on creative writing, music, and both together. When she’s not at work, she loves gardening, cooking, and hiking and exploring the outdoors. She lives in Maryland with her husband, jazz saxophonist and composer Paul Faatz, and feline contingent Alafair, Templeton, and Fergus.
The Project
We are crowdfunding our first printrun of this gorgeous tale. This means that by preordering the book, you helping us pay for our design and art work, and for the initial printing of the book.
Since we know many of Kris' fans are in the US, please note that our prices are in NZ dollars! I have made a small table below to give you a sense of the exchange (though of course, this does fluctuate, so it is worth double checking it when you read this.
Please do ensure you pick the reward with the right shipping option for where you are in the world.
We are also including art packs, which will contain A4 prints of the maps of Lassar and Namora, and the cover art (all created by the amazing Will Thompson).
Keep an eye out for stretchgoals and new rewards added as we go. :)

Boxes of books!

Hello Marvelous Humans!
An update for you as to where we are currently at in this process. You have hopefully received an email from [email protected] ( if not, check your spam/junk folders).
I have received boxes of books! Which means over the next week or two I will begin the process of shipping your rewards to you. It should have been yesterday, but I discovered when I went to do it that the boxes I had bought to package them in are... I am not kidding... 5mm too small. Farcical, I know. I have now ordered slightly bigger boxes, so as soon as they arrive, I will get posting!
In the meantime, it is important that you keep an eye on your email. I have some questions for some of you who purchased physical rewards. I am also looking for confirmation of shipping addresses.

Upgrading your pledge

Hello loves!
This one is for people who have already pledged on a book, and now really want one of our upgrade packs (like the stationery one!). I have added a reward called "Upgrade me" which allows you to set the dollar amount. Just make the dollar amount the difference between what you have already pledged, and the upgrade you want, and then I will be in touch after the fact to find out what you want added. :)

Final Week and Halfway Mark

Good morning beautiful humans!
We are into our final week on this project, and are just within sniffing distance of the halfway mark. We're running a weeklong launch event over on Facebook, so if you are not already - go and take a look!
The last week is when I usually get a bit silly and add a few extra rewards. Historically there is one there to mess with Will's love for clean numbers. I may have to throw that one up just for the amusement value.
This time around though, I think I'll be focussing on just giving you cool extra things. So there will be a sticker reward and a stationary pack. The sticker reward means that you get some Fourteen Stones Pledgeme Exclusive stickers thrown in with your book when we send it to you. The Stationary Pack will include some postcards, and a little Fourteen Stone themed notebook.
I'm still working on the designs for these, but the rewards will be up soon! I'll post some teaser pictures in a day or two.
I do want to thank everyone who has joined in to help us make this happen over the last three weeks. The final week is always the most intense, so Kris and I are both burning candles from all ends at this stage. It's exhausting and exhilirating, and we're so grateful to have you along for the ride.
